I spent the best part of 2 hours experimenting with a hilux last night.
No I didnt damage it, nor make it look damaged, I just added details to make it look like I painted it, I love it now.
Did this to the black one (seemed easiest),
Drybrushed it mid-grey, put some watered down dark brown paint in the back, let it dry for abotu 30 secs then dabbed some out with tissue, drybrushed some bone colour into there and repeated the process.
Gave the metals a wash of dark brown mixed with black to make them look less 'shiny' and more 'dirty'.
Repainted the 'lights' practically the same way as they had done, just with highlights.
Drybrushed the bottom area (where it would gather dirt most) a kind of dirty beige (graveyard earth) then lightly with bleached bone.
The rider was done later, I painted his skin dark flesh then highlighted this up to a mix of dwaf flesh and tanned flesh. The headscarf was given a wash of mid-grey then highlighted various shades of grey up to white.
The band holding this up was painted black.
His eyes were picked out with white paint and a small black pupil focusing in the same direction.
The clothing was washed with graveyward earth and highlighted up to bleached bone.
The gun was block painted gun metal and then given a wash of black, some areas were picked out with 'chainmail'.
The belt details were then picked out (buttons, belt).
Now imo it looks quite professional.
