B5 Campaigne [SHADOW]

I am very new to this game and by new i mean i have had one game. I love the Shadow and have chosen them as my race to play as from my friends collection.

He is using earth alliance and in the friendly game we had he owned me easily. So are there any tips or hints you can give me for playing as the shadow.

Thanks in advance.

Use terrain, don't go charging straight at him.

Use hyperspace if you can.

Flank him - your super manouverability allows you to keep out of his front arcs.

Don't be afraid to run away and heal & regenerate shields.

Concentrate your scouts on one ship, so that you deplete his interceptors.

If his fighters are bothering your big ships, keep a scout behind them to clean them off (or at least send them somewhere else).

And don't worry about jumping out at any point, shadows are a hit and RUN fleet. Plus shadows are ridiculasly expensive in campaigns so running allot is a good thing.

this is good stuff, thank you very much Greg Smith :D, ill let you know how the battle go's, hopefully for a shadow victory.

Hmm i like that idea Bear :D, like i said ill let ya know how it go's

If possible, keep your Scouts in pairs. If you just park one behind your big ship, he'll just let the fighters go behind the Scout. Two Scouts facing each other will eat fighters. Likewise, if your Scouts are attacking one of his ships, put at least one on each side of the target so they can cover each other against fighters.

Also don't fall into the same trap I usually do!!

I'm also very new to playing ACTA and my favourite race is shadows (I was a huge fan of them in the show). I tend to get a little over eager and start hacking away at the first big ship I see and forget about the others.

With shadows you may think that the bigger ships are all that can be a threat, trust me you can be niggled down by those pesky raid and skirmish level ships!!!

Lastly I'll second the hit and run tactic, use your scout to its full potential and also remember that Shadows have 'advanced jump engines'. Very effective if you want to completely surprise someone ;)

You can't use your hyperspace mastery in evry scenario, but when you can, the ability to just appear next to a ship with no warning and start firing, is very, very nasty. And getting behind a fleet that will struggle to turna round is priceless.

well my first game was a loss, i had to call a tactical withdrawal against my opponent.

I killed one of his EA Dreadnoughts , one of his Tethy Cutters and a few flights of his flyers. I managed to escape with three ships intact, luckily both of my Shadow Ships came through unscaved...more or less. I lost one of my Shadow Scouts through a stupid mistake of charging full steam ahead with them on 5th turn -_-, no biggy though since it was my first game.

Quoted for truth, when i did the it was the best reaction ever. Bababoom Drednaught go's down ;)

i just need to fine turn my tactics a little, i found that even though im dealing massive fire power down onto a single ship and screwing it up, my Shadow Ships are still being whittled down very easily. It was probably just the fact that he had alot more ships than me out on the field, thus being able to keep up the nice base of fire.

Also what should i be taking in a battle game?

at least i think it was a battle game, i had 2 shadow ships and 2 shadow scouts. NO Flights of fighters

Best way is to just run off the table with your double move. Fleeing to hyperspace is risky as you have a turn of half move and no fire before you dissapear. Watch out for the scenario rules on table edges though to make sure you can do this safely.

I would have personally had some more scouts maybe 6 and one shadow ship. It gives you more redundancy and better manouvarbility possibilities.

could i have afforded it though?

what could i take for each fight type.

like Raid, Battle, War etc etc im not sure of the others :D

they are a scout variant, I converted my own when I had a Shadow Fleet

In the episode "Shadow Dancing", we first see a Scout attacking the White Star, when it fires its pulse cannon.

Later in the same episode, during the big battle, if you watch very carefully you can see what looks like a Scout firing a beam. The Stalker is therefore basically a beefed up Scout with a beam; here are Burger's stats for it.

So you could easily represent a Stalker with a Scout model, although you'll need some way to remember which of those models on the table are Stalkers and which are regular Scouts. One way is to permanently modify the model as Shadow Queen has done. Another is simply to mark numbers on the bases of the Scouts, which also helps when you need to remember which one has taken damage, then just remember that Scout number 5 is actually a Stalker, for example. If you have the new ball-and-socket bases and you haven't glued the pillar into the Scout, then you could use a short pillar for a regular Scout and a long pillar for a Stalker.

oooh i like this :D ill have to get myself the shadow fleet box and covert up two of them. I also noticed the bottom right picture on this link http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/gallery/player_army.php?qsSeries=28&qsArmy=19#
some other types of ships.

they kind of look the the big shadow ships but have the wavy bits that bend over the main body. Also another two ships that kinda look like beaks.

Stalkers are a scout varient in appearance :)

Pretty much I tend to you the fleet scale scouts for scouts and the normal scale scouts as stalkers so you can tell the difference ;)
