armour, different materials, AP...

Mongoose
Hi,

I got a question about the use of different materials in armour and the penalties imposed in the skills by these materials.

Example: If you have a steel armour you get a +1AP and -1ENC, does this mean that you get +1% penalty to your skills? -1ENC somehow tells me that the armour weight less so should it be easier to move around in it?

Also for armour made from animals hide. Does it also work 1AP = 1% reduction in skills? I guess what I'm saying is that for low level creatures (i.e. bear skin, or similar) this might be reasonable or at least consistent with the other armour but for creatures with higher AP it starts to be almost imposible to don the armour and move.

Any ideas on how to solve this?

Haven't got the book with me but the weight of the armour merely adds/subtracts towards Fatigue (how much it tires you out), not how awkward (e.g. DEX-limiting) it is to use.

Just an fyi, I think a fair few people only deduct half the armour penalty to combat skills, anyway.

I'm not sure if I explained my point with respect to steel.

The thing is that if you have three armours of the same type/shape and one made of bronze, another one made of steel, and the final one made of coral. The steel one is going to have +1AP/-1ENC with respect to the bronze one, and the coral one is going to have +1AP/+1ENC.

So my problem is that if we consider 1AP=1%skill penalty you are going to have the same skill penalty with coral and with steel even though one is much lighter than the other as reflected by the ENC difference.

I hope I explained myself better.

I dont believe it intends for you to apply an additional skill penalty as the armor is essentialy the same as the base version but crafted with a superior material.

That's what I'm thinking, but I wanted to see how other people were playing it.
