Are the models pre-painted? Plastic?

Ken

Mongoose
I first got into ACTA back in its initial release, but I haven't been following up with the game often.

I remember there was talk of releasing plastic miniatures that would be pre-painted. Can I ask if these were ever produced, and if the new fleet boxes comprises of such models?

I'm keen on playing the game again, and I'd love to use models rather than counters. But I do not like assembling and/or painting.

I've tried to pick up all sorts of minis games before, but the assembling/painting always bugs me.

Thanks

That's a real shame, that there aren't any plasic, pre-painted minatures. I think I'll just hold off on getting into the game again.

After the problems with BVO i don´t think that plastic mins are in the mind of MGP right now.
i woud like plastic also special prepainted an pre assambled.

Not only BVO, but there is another game by another manufacturer that is having problems with pre-painted minis. Maybe most of the gamers like being able to paint their own to their specifications and limitations. It doesn't appear that the games with pre-painted figs are doing very well. Just a thought. If it came down to it, pick a fleet and hire someone to paint them for you.

It depends whether or not you're a gamer or a painter/modeller, not that they're exclusive. But I highly doubt most people would be happy with pre-painted and pre-assembeled minis as then it merely becomes a battling hobby and actually removes what I consider to be crucial elements of the hobby. Also if people can paint their own minis then they can individualise them and make them stand out a bit better on the battlefield. Besides, this way it means less work for Mongoose and thereby less cost on the minis; imagine how much a pre-painted and pre-assembled Adira would cost you, considering this sort of stuf is usually painted by hand.

But yes, if you're completely against the idea of painting the minis then commission someone else to do them for you; many people do and many are more than willing to do it (with the right insentives).

Sorry you shoud look at the selling of AT 43. Prepainted plastic and they sell very well.

I guess loads of people have been spooked by Rackham seeking bankrupcy protection...

But as far as I know AT-43 has been doing very well.

Having been a longtime CBT player, and seeing what pre-painted plastic minis are like (MW:DA) and what the Vast majority of players who play the games that use them are like, I am very glad Babylon5 is Metal...

Now, Unpainted plastic minis I can see (a la Warhammer)...

I had hoped that this discussion concerning Rakham would not spill over here. I heard enough of what they did or did not to Confrontation or AT-43.

Taran - if you like Classic Battletech (as opposed to Mechwarrior clicky tech) have a look at the new releases over on the Classic Battletech forums, the new stuff is frothy awesome (and not prepainted neither!)

We're gamers. A games company going tits-up concerns us, even if we don't play the games it produces. The discussion was bound to arrive here sooner or later. At least no one's flaming anyone... :P

AT-43 doing well? Why is Rackham in its death throes, then?

Because of what they did to Confrontation.

A comparison of this would have been if Mongoose released 2e ACTA, but with pre-painted FA scale minis....

I am not against pre-painted plastics, the AT-43 stuff was good, and even the BF:Evo was better then a lot of peoples efforts to paint.

If ACTA ever manages to go plastic, then I hope they'll keep it unpainted. Though releasing plastics does mean you can actually colour the plastic sprue as part of the manufacturing process. Not everything needs to be GW grey.

I think in all honesty most peoples issue with prepainted plastics is that generally speaking the quality on them is generally not even remotely close to what a really good painter can do and they tend to cost more than they would otherwise. Also, when alls said and done, metal minis have a nice chunky weight about them that somehow makes them feel more valuable to me (also get knocked around on the table less easily which is always good).

Conversely, theres a whole slew of gamers out there who LOVE wargaming but either hate painting, don't have time to paint, or just plain suck at painting! Now personally I can paint to a moderate standard and do so fairly quickly and if I'm honest I DO have time to do it if I take said time away from other random activities like playing Medieval Total War but I dont actually LIKE painting. I do enjoy the finished result and its a nice feeling when you can lay out an army and say 'I made that' but I'd just as soon lay out a fleet of prepainted ships and spend the weeks worth of painting time doing other things.

The ideal solution of course would be to have prepainted models that cost more or less the same as the current metal ones, and if you dont like the paintjob you can always redo it! But sadly I dont think thats terribly liklely :(

Like you said, pre-paints are usually nasty. Soft, bendy plastic and those God-awful hex bases. Urgh. Kid's toys. Give me a proper model any day, even if takes me more than 12 months to paint it...

Although I must say that I think the quality of the AT-43 models is actually very good. I would be happy to play games with them (and I do) and... I can paint fairly well.

I saw these at gen Con and they looked horrid. No where near the quality I would have expected. Lots of flash lines and loss of detail.

I'll stick with metal Mechs.
