Reading off the paper, it looks like the Vorlon HC and the Ancient Shadow ship are closely matched. I'm curious, who do you think would win in a 1x1 fight?

I get the impression that this game was never intended to pitch a ship against another, but for the sake of answering the question: Why not let them duke it out? Say, 100 duels? Based on the size of this community and dedication of the fans, I don't think it would be too difficult.

Based on the series, Ill vote for the Vorlon Cruiser

1 ship vs. 1 ship is not fair. I'd give the Shadow vessel the advantage over most ships the game in that situation due to SM.

In this case the Vorlon player gets maybe 1 shot and spends the rest of the game trying to get into arc while the Shadow player keeps shooting.

Shadows will win most times (exceptions are when Vorlon player gets 1 hit which pins the Shadow Ship...)

From the stats, the Vorlon can get a minimum of 2 shots if the play smart. They have 30" range on the big gun, and the Shadow Ship only moves 8.

With two shots, one of them with both weapons, they can inflict some serious damage.

I agree that once the Shadow ship gets behind the Vorlon ship, they should just throw in the towel right there.

If it's my Psi Corps friend running the Vorlon, I would never vote for the Shadow ship...

Shadow Ship can move 16" if he uses his SM wisely. Shadows initiative is higher. And if there is terrain he also gains an advantage. So I'd say if the Shadows player knows what he is doing, the Vorlon will get a maximum of 1 shot - and that is if he plays it right! One mistake and he gets no shots.

Superb manouverability, page 137 ;)
Oh and Shadows can't use All Power To Engines.

As in many instances, initiative will play a part. I don't see the Vorlon getting more than one shot at the Shadow ship, and it would need to be a pretty good one to get past the Shields AND do enough to pin the ancient behemoth... 8)

In an asteroid heavy area, the shadow would have to make a mistake not to win. In open space it's more of a coin toss. the Discharge gun is big enough to drop the shields on an average roll, and the lightning cannon will pin on a good, but not exceptional roll. If the shadow ship gets pinned, then it's all over.

So in open space it's about 60:40 to the shadows, in dense terrain it's more like 85:15.

Other factor is the skill of the players involved, if the shadow player is unsubtle in their tactics then they might well get spanked.

I have seen 3 ancient and 2 young shadow ships defeat 2 Vorlon heavy cruisers and two First Ones in a three way battle two out of three times in the last couple of months. First Ones won the third battle by the way.

id deff go for the vorlon, specially as ive done it,sit in a corner and blow it to bits, any way they got cooler looking ships

How you gonna sit in a corner exactly? Vorlons don't have reverse gear AFAIK! Gonna take at least 3 turns... move into corner, All Stop, All Stop And Pivot. And if the Shadow Ship gets a No Special Actions crit on you while you're doing that, well byebye Vorlon!

All that does is remove the Shadow's fighters as being able to do much of anything to the Vorlon. Plus, if the Vorlon receive a No Special Actions crit, it gets repaired in End Phase. Not exactly a game-ender for the Vorlon.

Maybe it would be possible for the Vorlon player to enter the field in a corner of the map and just sit there. Incredibly cheesy, but it would prevent the Shadow ship from getting in behind it.

The Shadow's SM rules are sick and disgusting. I would love fighters being able to do that! (would have helped me win the Patrol level Border Run scenario)
