ACTA SF

Matthew, whatever you're paying Sandrine, it's not enough! :)

That's a huge improvement over the older model... it looks related to both native romulan families of ships and ties them together.

Where's a thumbs up smilie when you need one?

In case anyone here has missed them so far, Xander Fulton (a regular over on the BBS) has been sprucing up some of the 3D ship art to make some pretty pictures; not least this one.

I thought this game was supposed to be out in month or two is that the case if so please tell me these minis will be ready.

If you look at the release schedule, you'll see that the miniatures scheduled for a November release consist only of Klingon, Federation and Romulans.
With two or three posssible exceptions, the scheduled minis have been designed, reviewed, approved, and released for production. And I would expect the remaining few to be finalized within the next day or two.

The miniatures being designed right now are those scheduled for a December release: Kzinti, Gorn, Orion Pirate, and Tholians.

Based solely on this, I would feel confident that they will be released as scheduled.
In fact, since the bulk of the Federation miniatures were finalized a week or tow ago - there's probably a whole rallet of them sitting in a warehouse already and the Klingons are probably on the way to join them.

Another empire got added to the pile yesterday. :D

Any chance the trench lines on the Federation's saucer sections are going to be smoothed out? They seem to be very deep on the CGI shots.

The perceived depth of the weld lines is an artifact ofthe design process. Raised panels and recessed creased need to be exagerated in height/depth to render correctly on the actual model.

the recessed lines of hte ST2500 CA are nowhere near as deep as I thought they were before I got one to paint.

To some extent it is true that engraved lines need to be out of scale on such a small model otherwise they just won't show up, especially after one coat of even the thinnest paint. The preview drawings are massively upscaled from the miniatures so the lines will look like trenches.

However, looking at those photos, the lines do look a bit excessive. I've seen finer lines than that on some earlier Mongoose models, although those were cast in metal - is it impossible to get finer lines in resin?

As for the Tholian Patrol Corvette: I like it! No gratuitous raised panels this time, just a nice clean TOS-style ship. I'll probably have at least one for display; if the rules for Tholian webs are any good, I'll have a squadron. :)

Out if interst how close is the actual model to the renders in terms of the fine details some people are very clear about?

As it stands def a few Federation and Klingon ships to get - I think I will give the rest a miss as don't like the style esp the Kzinti!

If by boneheads you mean the forehead cornish pasty klingons, nope. These are TOS klingons, all dark and moody with not a cornish in sight.

We need Starfleet Forums with race specific sub boards. I am going Klingon all the way. For the Empire! We need ST emoticons as well.

@ daBoss: All of the details shown on the draft of the Fed CA that was teh current version at that time, are present on the mini. Except for a small area near the stand hole where a bubble formed that required repair, everything was clear, crisp, and easy to paint.

I had intended to collect a few of my favorites for use in Federation Commander and stick with my current Starline 2400 collection for ACTA, but after painting the CA - I'm gonna go broke.

I will defintiely collect a Federation, a Klingon, a Romulan, and a Kzinti Fleet. As well as a lotta targets. I mena, civilian units.

Im gonna have to wait for Hydrans and decide what to do till then. I might go Fed as I like the ships and I was crap at getting the EA right for them in SFB - or Gorn, always liked them but never had the SSDs (although somewwhere in these SFU/Mongoose threads I think I saw comment that SVC was thinking of electronic SSD books, which for me would be a godsend, ack of easy copying and printing of my SSD books are the biggest bar for getting a game of SFB going).

Kzinti look attractive too....so many choices so little time. Simple web rules would make Tholians fun too....aaaagghhhh. So much money, so many models - oh the painting the painting, waily waily me.
