if all hes got is a broad sword then he should be swinging it two handed which means he'll be doing 16pts of damage and then all he has to do is power attack for 2 points of his BAB to get +4 damage and wham he's got a massive damage hit.

massive damage will kill that 6th level soldier, especially if he rolled low on his HD.
