Worst rule in the whole game

Played 5 point Battle last night, Red Navy vs IJN

Sovětskaja Bělorusija, Sovětskaja Rusija and Archangelsk faced off againt a Yamato, 2 Nagato and 4 Fubuki.

Turn the first, Yamato opens fire on Sovětskaja Bělorusija. Critical hit. Double one, six.

Not a damn thing I can do about it.

I think there's enough historic precedent to support the 1 crit kill in the rules.
If you COULDN'T sink the Hood catastrophically with one shot the system would be inaccurate.

Doesn't make it feel any better though...

To all the people who quote historical accuracy.

Aircraft.
With the rules as written, my gaming group won't be bothering with them. Submarines aren't much better.

To everyone else.

Losing a substantial portion of your forces to a lucky shot in turn one, which I can do nothing about, does not a fun game make. The game was over before it had begun.

But you did have time to play another game :)

Well thats the way the cookie crumbles, not wanting to say 'tough'. But it did happen, and it was a fact. A magazine hit, tended to leave you with no ship.

tee hee...

You did it as well...

I guess I should say something about historical accurcay and stuff but others already have.

Well as for historical accuracy.... yes fair enough. But then theres the immensely valid point about aircraft. You cant have it both ways!

This is a game..... to heck with historical accuracy

To me it's a game of ship to ship combat.

Thus I'm happy to see aircraft somewhat nerfed contrary to historical accuracy.

Likewise I'm happy to see the historical possibility of a one shot kill.

Personally I'd treat it as a "how the hell do I get out of this" type of game that I know I can't "win". Inflicting a bloody nose back on the enemy would be my goal, nothing inspires quite as much as being backed into a corner.

I was watching the game this thread is about... there was no chance of givinnf a bloddy nose... It was more like as soon as the IJN got the advantsge with the first turn kill it proceeded to mercilessly flatten the other two battleships... 1 Yamato and 2 Nagato are mean enough, give them an advantage like that and there was no real chance of the Russians doing aything...

I personally think 1 hit Kills ARE fun. There is nothing funner or more exciting then playing a fast paced naval wargame and then sinking a shell into your oponents ship and getting REALLY lucky. Likewise, there isn't anything funner than having your own ship 'shot out from under your ass'.
