Just a thought for SST: Evo.

While some people will want the prepainted models, others will want to convert & paint their own.

Mongoose would hopefully provide those people with models right on the sprues in a plain box with none of that expensive packaging for these players.

Any thoughts?

While I probably wouldn't want it, I don't see any reason not to provide it to those that do.

The biggest question is whether it's technically possible - some people have mentioned that at least some of the colour might be added during the plastic manufacturing process (possibly infused into the plastic as it sets), which would make it an expensive process to roll off unpainted sprues (they would end up costing more than painted due to the costs of an additional production run).

Chances are they won't be produced on piddly little sprues anymore, but BIG ones purely setup as part of the mass manufacturing & painting process.

They would have to re-tool especially to do the 'white box' line, thusly making them more expensive.

As long as the color is integrated in the plastic I don't care - have to spray them anyway. It doesn't matter wether the plastic is black or red or a bit of both.
I just dont wanna have color layers on it because it kills details when I spray them.

And of course they must be unassembled (this is even much more important than beeing unpainted), so that I can position them as I want.

Well since the models have to be assembeled anyway at some point. Like 2 arms (not 2 right ones) and legs and 1 torso for assmebly at the factory anyway, they could just snatch em off the production band right there. Dump them in a white box and sell.

So much for theory. It should be able to work, and it doesnt matter if the plastic is infused with paint. Like blue or red or green, base em black rpoblem done. But if they are actually painted its half a no go...cause you really lose some detail when basing those.....

That could actually significantly increase the production costs. what the LT is talking about is the sprues being cast in one or more colours (take a look at a Bandai Gundam model kit to see what he means), and it'd actually increase the cost to go and make uncoloured sprues at the same time.

Well it depends on the method used to paint them I guess. without knowing more about the process we can't really tell

Who leaves the standard gray on his minis? So we would cover up any kind of green/red.whatever as well.

No cost increase. You could just issue a forum statement why the color of the plastic of unassembled minis looks so funny.

they come prepainted great.

you wann convert them ? no problem

you wanna pait them ?no problem

to convert them you cut them up evan if there premade,and combine bits from other prepaited minis,, infact if done well you may not evan have to do any painting to match them in bar a bit of black to hide the cuts ???? ive converted loads of hero clix figs it works great.

if you wanna paint them weel again no promblem,, if there grey or prepaited you still need to undercoat them so again no problem

idiots make problems for them selves, original people solve problems you wana be an idot or original.

you can cut up a prepaited fig and convert it, you can evan repait it, all this prepaited doese is give you one new option,, and thats use it straight from the box, characters and specialist minis will still be in kit/metal form so relax

were not loosing out we are gaining, evo being prepainted means i can get my mate to play some games, as for me i love to convert and modle so i can just get tanks add extra bits of armour or graffiti and do some weatering on them.

as a modle maker im very posative about this move.

Try again when your in a better mood. The arguments may sound nicer when you do not muddle them up with profanities and vulgar aggressiveness.

Now why do poeple not want prepainted? Cause repainting isnt the same as painting, you WILL lose detail, this isnt metal that you can just throw into acetone.

Why people want unassembled? Cause its just so easier and faster when you dont have to cut every single model in your army up.


Along the same line of your post:

You wanna have both options available? No problem.
Well just ask you to special order via us. That means we pick up a few unassembled models before they go through the actual painting process, pack em in a nondescritptive box that doesnt cost a thing and send em to you for standard fare.

Really the kinds of people that prefer to lose options. BTW you might just ask a little extra on the cost for the actual work of someone packing the stuff. So that the actual price might not be that much cheaper vs prepainted.

why do people get bashed for wanting to have the other half of their hobby not turn needlessly workintensive. Its about freedom of choice. I want to spent my time painting models and building them up to personal taste, not chopping them up and cleaning the plastic of prepaint.

Definite "yes" - think of all the conversion possibilities on plastics. Even metals got some. And many people (me included) use their own colour schemes.

Of course there is the "little" problem of financial results for MGP, so making the "unassembled, unpainted" boxes just special orders would work out just fine.
