in fact, I could be wrong but I think 5 war points works out to about 180 flights of fighters..... (1 War = 12 patrol = 12 wings = 36 flights

Probably another important question to ask - is it a straight fight or a specific scenario with relevant winning conditions?

Take 2 light cruisers, 4 destroyers and 36 fighters.
Set up a pillbox of Vorlon death with the cruiser in back and the destroyers up front. Make sure you all stop for a turn so you can all stop and pivot the next.
The first two two turns you will outrange him so pop as many scouts as possible at range. When they get in close they will be worrying more about your capital ships than fighters. At this point capital ships should just be all-stop pivoting. This is when you take your fighters and jump 4-6 scouts making sure they are out of any scouts firing arc. Be very careful with your fighters because they could disappear quickly if used improperly.
You also have to consentrate fire on targets to kill them, this is much better than damaging a few ships heavily because: Shadows regenerate, killing ships limits return fire, and shooting at the same ship helps with overcoming stealth roles.
Follow these rules and crush shadows under your feet.
