What will your first PC be?

I always thought the D6 Star Wars was quite a good fit. RQ Star Wars would be insane as a Storm Trooper would be bound to critical a Jedi PC in the head in the first firefight.

If it's set in the second Age then there's loads of potential-Openhandist Mostali, EWF Broos, Wachaza followers, Jrusteli wierdoes. Most of the old PC standbys from the Dragon Pass area won't be as viable. I could go for the second age setting in a big way if it's done right.

Thats true, the RQ system is too deadly for a "cinematic" game. A Star Wars game that wants to capture the heroic feel of the movies is about powerful PC's taking on hordes of red-shirts.

The best way to implement heroic characters is to use some kind of "hero point: or "luck point" system, where players can modify the outcomes of rolls in their favor. Even with such a system I think RQ is just too deadly a system.

Chopping off limbs should be a part of any Star Wars game though.

I think the Star Wars reference has more to do with combat movement (closing, disengaging, weapon length, tactical advantage) than anything else. Also that you actually have defensive maneuvers. They have pointed out that combat 'can' be deadly and that it is fluid. It looks like it is more a stylistic issue than a plan to actually write Star Wars scenarios. Although I could be wrong about that last.

You mean I can't have a light saber weilding baboon?

Just wait for Starquest... :)

Starquest? a setting, or what? Sounds like RQ going Star Trek :)
Seriously, I do not see any problem why you could not use RQ for Science Fiction or Space Opera as well. It just need some rules-addons to handle such things as space ships and vehicles.

As for player characters, it seems two of my players have got the idea of playing a Duck merchant and a "human barbarian" (more description not available at this time).

Oh yes, the OP!

Assuming that we're talking not only Glorantha - I was hoping for an Arthurian knight for the "Warlords of Britain" setting. Problem #1: the book is delayed; Problem #2: If I want to play, I'll probably need to run it myself.

So I'll most likely be converting my Aquilonian noble for play in the Hyborian kingdoms... again.

Ok :)
As for Conan's world, I would love to see that as a setting for RQ.
Doing sourcebooks for Conan d20 that also contains RQ rules, should not really be a problem, I think. Unless the books is going to be very heavy on the rule-side.
Setting info can be used straight of the bat.

Ringworld was a very good BRP sci fi game. A little to much of a niche.

To further threadjack, maybe with the popularity of HALO we can bring ringworld back (though that game completely ignored all the cool ring world stuff other than showing the arch beyond the horizon).

Well, I know one thing. I want to play Fantasy, SciFi, and Post-apocalyptic settings with the new RQ system.

Wow, Ringworld. That's one I almost forgot about (that said, i still have all the books, IIRC). The biggest problem with Ringworld, IMHO, was that while the rules were fine, and the story was cool (gotta love Niven), it was never really much fun to play or GM in the 'default' setting. When an adventure might span 120,000 km across a fraction of the Ring, or you might be just dealing with the local primatives near your crash site, the game just seemed to be hazy and unfocused.

The system was very easily adapted to other non-Ringworld sci-fi genres though, and I think it actually worked better that way.

As I recall (and that was a long time ago) there never was very good support for that game.

I know what you mean about feeling hazy/unfocused, they detailed the ring and the technology very well, but gave no focus. But with such a huge area, there was plenty of room for a GM to create interesting scenarios/campaigns, they just didn't get a whole lot of help from Chaosium.

Though I must admit, it was littled played in practice. IMHO it is up there with Jorune for "best games that never actually took".

First thing I'll probably do is convert the disgusting Humakti Death Sword monstrosity I've been playing for 25 years and see if he breaks the system.
