What Have You Painted Today??

I've been a bit slack with posting lately  But here's my latest, an orc gang I put together for mordheim.

The mini I'm most pleased with is the shaman.

Who by the way is the only one I bought for the whole gang. All the rest I scrounged out of the bits cupboard at the local club. We have a put stuff in, take stuff out, honestly system.

Oh yes I also finished my pak. But I'll post them on the 'miniature games' page.

Finally finished: an EarthForce Warlock.

There are a few differences from the standard model. One is that the stand is further forward. The normal model is balanced by a big lump of metal at the back, but on this model "big lump of metal" was an accurate description of what should have been the engine. It was easier to amputate it with a saw and build a new one rather than try more detailed surgery to fix the original engine. The new engine is based around a block of balsa with a 12mm square cross-section, beveled pieces of balsa on top and bottom, then details made from plastic sprue, thin plastic rod and paper. So it's a lot lighter than the metal engine, which is why the stand is where it is.

The "real" Warlock has 11 turrets but the model is only supplied with 10. This is because one of the turret positions is normally occupied by the stand. With the stand on this model where it is, the 11th turret position became available, leaving me one short. So the foremost upper turret is also scratch-built and intentionally looks different from the others because that's a railgun turret while most of the others are pulse cannon. Two of the underside turrets should also be railguns so I might scratch-build replacements for those, but they're less important because they're not as visible.

Nice, good work on the engine block & turrets.

Ditto on that! If you hadn't said anything I don't think I would have noticed the engine, it's that close to the orginal.

Some WIP stuff (painting to be done still, etc)

First up is my take on a D'tarn Plasma/Escort Cutter. The counters and images of the D'tarn I've seen are a bit different, so I'm just going to rationalize it as a MK II/redesign sort of thing, especially since the fluff I had seen for the D'tarn in the Wars supplement it appeared in made it sound weaker/older than the Sho'Kos, but the unofficial stats that were made are for a ship that is marginally more powerful than a Sho'Kos.

Next is my take on the Liati. I've never been a fan of the studio sculpt, and I really didn't want to go to the trouble of getting something I'm not very fond of. The ship that makes up a significant portion of this kitbash was originally meant to be a proxy/kitbash for a Maximus, but it just didn't seem to want to behave. Cookies if you can pick out what it used to be.

C&C most welcome. :D

Liking your Liati a lot. I would have probably made it a little bit larger but thats a very minor point.

D'Tarn simple and effective and for me somehow looks more advanced than the Sho'kos.

Some very nice ships there Brave!

The Liati is great looking. re the Narn escort - nicely done as well - may I borrow a couple of images for when/if update Dilgar War supplement.

re the stats - hmm always tricky :)

I see the painting/modeling forum has been swallowed up by 'other miniature games'.
To be fair, pretty well all the miniatures shown here are from games which Mongoose either no longer supports or never owned in the first place, which is what "Other Miniatures Games" is for.

But the timing is a bit odd. If the move had happened a few months ago it would have been more understandable. The impending release of projects N and D presumably means Mongoose hopes to sell plenty of miniatures which people will then paint and want to show off. Perhaps then the modelling forum will split off again, along with the ACTA forum...

Now that Project N has been spoilered, I fully expect to see a Noble Armada ACTA forum very soon.

@Da Boss

If you're ever interested in pics of my stuff, just let me know, and I'll see about getting some more print friendly ones that don't involve killer giant space pine needles.

Thanks! I borrowed the "toothbrush splatter" techinque mentioned earlier in this thread. It worked equally well for grey on the outside and blue on the inside. :)

Updated Olympuses.

Watching "In The Beginning", I noticed that the Olympus isn't just plain grey, there are some coloured details on the engines - three brown panels on each nacelle, bordered by white, with a blue stripe above and below.
