What Have You Painted Today??

All ships from the TV series eh, maybe thats why they look good together, subliminal familiarity, (great name for a band). I've never tried the army of light in a game however you make it sound a worthy challenge AdrianH.
Not all the ships from the TV series made it into the AoL. No Shadows, obviously! No Vorlons or Centauri, either. Only ships from the main series (no spin-offs, apart from the Olympus from "In The Beginning"). And only the main time-line (no Tinashi, which only appeared at the end of "War Without End", about 1000 years before the AoL). On the other hand the Abbai, Gaim and pak'ma'ra do contribute to the official AoL fleet list, but as they never appeared on screen I don't have models of them.

As for a dodgy band...

Course, then there are also other canon ships that never made it to minis, in fact I am working furiously on one even as I write. [just don't tell Hiff]

Assuming everything comes to plan, aiming for deadline of Christmas for its use in support of a series of joke pics, (well by then it will be around 12 months since I posted my Whitestar Knifefghter and Supersaggi, might as well start a tradition. )

What Dodgy Band,............... you deserve to be on X Factor right now........ No really you definitely do ................

Oh! and by the way................ curse you AdrianH, .............I am just back from a walk down a long corridor at work, whistling away, (as you do), until I noticed I was getting some very strange looks................ and realised I was whistling **!!!!8888 .............. "YMCA" :x :(

[and most certainly not "subliminal familiarity" in this case.....no really]

Not exactly painted...

Now hosted thanks to Burger, a paper Vorchan.

The model, along with a Primus, is available here.

The stand is painted; the black printed stripe is a useful guide to cutting it out, but most of the black ends up inside the folded triangle. Between the vertical fins is a nice oval shape which, when cut out, makes a good base. The small grey circles go under the turret before it's glued to the hull, so it stands off a little.

Perhaps a bit of drybrushing will stop it looking so flat

Oh I don't know, I certainly have a few minis in my gaming cabinets that are just as flat, only there not made from carboard. :P

Three Blue Stars.

The blue marking looks a bit messy - it's supposed to look messy! Originally it was tidier than that, but then I looked again at the photo I used as one of my references and did a bit more dry-brushing.

Very very good Adrain H,

Funnily enough started 4 Blue Stars myself just before Christmas. Painted 1 then improved the technique on the 2nd but then had to move on to other painting priorites.

Capturing the canon look is indeed more challenging than I originally expected, mind you that was before I checked back on the canon images.
and had forgotton they were mottled.

I'll be interested to see your Blue Stars.

Meanwhile, here's my Liandra. Actually it's the Nolo'Tar model, but I'm only interested in painting models of ships which appeared on screen. But judging by screen shots of the "real" Liandra and photos of models, the Nolo'Tar model is a better depiction of the Liandra than the Liandra model, though somewhat oversize. Mind you, the Liandra is apparently an older ship refitted with new weapons and systems; the ACTA Liandra has the same damage and crew scores as the Nolo'Tar; so the Liandra is probably basically a refitted Nolo'Tar.

The base coat is medium brown mixed with some gold, while the green is also mixed with a little gold, to give a semi-metallic finish.

Very nice work indeed Adrian & particularly on the creation of your excellent semi metallic look.

Agree totally on your points on the large & small Nolo'Tar / Liandra minis

(Note to self - Hmm!, need to file that paint approach away for future use)

Happy to take some shots of my Bluestars next time I am taking some pics, which hopefully should be next weekend.

For me, the Reason why they should be switched is that for some strange reason, MGP packed 2, supposedly unique, ships in 1 blister. Getting 2 nolo'tars in 1 pack, now that's a bargain! :D

I'd regard them as interchangable anyway. A Nolo'Tar should be usable as a Liandra and vice versa. Just make sure you tell your opponent which it is, or if several are on the table at once, which one is the Liandra. :)

I'm going to have to pull finger and get that LONAW civilian fleet (Not to mention my pak) painted. I've been playing a lot of monpoc lately, and have gotten all lazy.

Nothing Mongoose-related, but some of you might find these of interest:
GEDC0584.jpg

Firestorm Armada Dindrenzi (those bases are 40mm square)

GEDC0563.jpg

Wings Of War repaints (Jasta 2 Albatros DIII fighters)

Nice work on the ships, which could probably proxy for some EA ships.

Really nice work on the Albatroses. Next, the ultimate challenge - the WW1 German "lozenge" scheme. Still, German WW1 aircraft do present more scope for creative painting than British ones!

Thanks, I was originally looking for proxies for Crusade era EA and Gaim. Those ships would do for the later EA cruiser and frigate types, and another of the FA races (the Aquans) are all curves which makes them reasonable Gaim substitutes.

Not a bad rules set either, and the resin ships are comparatively inexpensive. About £30 for a fleet box (a HUGE BB, 3x CA, 6x FF + counters).

I've painted lozenge camo on 1/72 scale and larger models, but I chickened out of trying it on 1/144 scale ones. There's decals for that :)

Nice work Iain,

How did you find the casting/assembly of the Dindrenzi ships, read that there have been some teething, casting issues with those ships in particular. (Although we should all be assembly/remedial experts here).

Yep agree they could indeed be be an alternative look for advanced EA the nose section in particular being an evolution from the Nova, Omega etc.

Already have another AOG inspired B5 race on the paintbench pipeline for my own Aquans, to be revealed later.

Great looking squadron, love the paint work.
