What Have You Painted Today??

Stalkers001.jpg

Halfway through painting a vree fleet for a friend. He liked how I had painted mine, and I owed him a favour. It's the same fleet that has beaten up my poor EA third age a number of times, at least now they will look good while doing it. (one of these days I'm going to introduce them to my centauri  )

My Katrik I finished it sometime back but just got around to putting it up:

An EA Delphi that I did today:

A Primus that I got in a trade the guy had started it based purple and boltgun
metal with gold highlights I decided that it should be lighter colored so I inked each of the panel lines, painted the superstructure light gray and started edging the panels ala CourtJester. Boy is that a lot of work! Salute to CourtJester :)

I also base painted a Tikrit, an Omelos, 4 Fleet Action Scale Vorchans, an Octurion, 2 Apollo Bombardment Cruisers, and I'm repainting a Dargan.

I do a little on each and move to the next one and keep rotating so that they can dry.

Those look really nice dude. The katrik mini always strikes me as one of the most true to the fluff minies in the game. It has a real angular, no frills, massed produced look to the ship.

I like the Katrik also, it reminds me of my dad's old truck from when I was a kid. :)

Thanks for the compliment btw!

here's a few WIP's

My Omelos

the orange is actually a lot brighter than it shows on the pics of the dilgar ships. I need better lighting.

Finally finished my mates vree

Sorry, this photo is a little fuzzy. I'm going to post some more on the main ACTA page.

Captain Nemo I really like the tikrit, whats the green you use. It's a real good shade for those ships, not too bright.[/img]

Even fuzzy those Vree look fantastic! I can't wait to see them on the ACTA page.

Any chance for a tutorial?

I use 'Polly S' US Tactical Dark Green for the base with a light coat of US Olive Drab by the same company directly onto the metal in this case. Polly S is probably hard to get and hideously expensive down by you. I don't like the price much here.

Maybe, Derivan's Olive Drab as a base with a light coat of Derivan GI Green over a light grey primer would work. I think I'll try that with my next couple of ships. :)

There isn't really that many steps. I start from a spray on black undercoat, and gradually build up the metalic parts with slightly heavier than usual dry brushing. Then I pickout all the colour and gold detail. When I do the drybrushing I will go over each ship 2-3 times (I used gw boltgun metal, it's not too bright). This lets you build up the metalic surface, if you go to heavy, or try to paint the metalic paint normally you seem to end up with a finish that looks too bright, and tinfoilish. Rather than a nice metalic finish. I guess you could use ink, but I like drybrushing. Even if it does take longer.

I use all gw paints, we don't have much of a range of companies to choose from down here. I don't think I've even heard of those companies you mentioned Captain Nemo. We have gw,humbrol, and tamiya, and thats about it.

Thanks for the how to Banichi :)

I mention Derivan paints specifically because they are made in Australia and I thought that since that's closer to New Zealand than the US or Great Britain that you maight find them there. They are good paints and a bit more economical than most everything else on the market right now. That doesn't count the craft paints from department stores which I can find as low as 50 US cents on sale. I use that paint for basing work though ;)

Here's a couple links to Derivan Painted stuff:

It's a good series of comments, even some tips.

Today i've carried on painting my Dark Angel army, finished my company master and two of his Entourage, two master of chapter models, the one with the hammer and the one holding the sword by the bottom of the hilt into the ground, when i figure out how to actually plug the camera into my computer and not the one which is passworded, i'll get them up.
