What do they mean ‘Holographic Hull’ ?

I suspect a bit further, to fool non visual sensors.

But essentially, if it requires appearing to bulk up, or slim down, you're into virtual space.

You're paying hundred kilostarbux per tonne, and need half a power point.

You could achieve the same effect with light emitting diode strips, especially considering resolution and distance.

So I would expect holographic projections to create an illusion that does appear to change the shape of the hull, and distort the radar return.

You can expect all you want, but the rule would actually have to change for that to be true. The whole Holographic Hull thing as written makes no sense for the cost and power requirements for how little it actually does.

Nowhere in the description does it say it is 3D or motion-capable. HG pg. 68
I know what the description says (it got edited) but I'm stating intentions.

The description also doesn't state that you can have only a part of the holographic hull active with only that part drawing power or even just have it on part of the hull, but that was always intended. (The Harrier being damaged is an exception to only that part drawing power).

Mongoose V1 had the sort of custom-'painted' ship holoskins that are now lacking. It seems like there should be that level between plain old paint and full holographic, but I don't think it currently exists. Which is too bad, I liked it.

If it was ROI, then it would have been changed in the updates to make it RAW. Or should have been anyhow.

It doesn't actually state that it can't be.
Nor does it state that it doesn't grant you the ability to shoot monkeys out of Our butts, but I figured it was understood to only do what it says it can do. It does say that the shape remains the same, but I doubt that means that you can keep the same shape and yet appear to be 500,000Dtons instead of a little 200-ton Harrier.

Correct, can't change the basic shape of the ship with this system.

Just trying to explain the capabilities of the system, sorry the rules aren't clear on this. The holographic in the name should imply the 3D aspect at least. But you can use whatever you want in your game.

lol. I am starting to think that the writer just didn't look up what a hologram actually is.

1. Let's holograph a Scout's hull.

2. You just added ten megastarbux to the cost.

3. Tearing apart interdimensional borders only requires ten power points for six minutes.

4. To keep the holograph active, you need sustain fifty power points, every six minutes.

5. I'm not sure where that power stays, but if projected on the hull, that's more than that of a fusion gun.

6. I'm thinking, that the radar signature will vary when that amount of power is streaming across the hull.

7. If you just want to change colour, how about printing light emitting diodes on the hull?

8. You could put them under transparent heat tiles.

9. If it's basically a television screen, which is what currently, a hundred bux per square metre?
