just because a weapon states anti fighter, does that mean it cannot target anything but fighters? or is it just quick enough to target them, i.e shadow scout, dd.sap.?
also on the damage crit list, if you get 4/4 and weapons 4+, is that for each weapon (say 4 of them) you have to throw 4+ for or for the ship as a whole to fire?

Anti-fighter weapons can target anything in range and arc. They are excellent at hitting fighters (and White Stars) though, because they ignore the target's "dodge" trait.

Power Fluctuations states that it is a 4+ for each weapon system. So you roll 1 dice for each weapon.
 
a weapon with the antifighter weapon works exactly the same as any other weapon but the target does not get a dodge save if it normallly would. This also applies to ships with dodge.

It should be noted that minibeams firing within 4" count as having anti fighter too but only when targetting auxilliary craft (they dont count as antifighter vs ships with dodge like whitestars).

Thats pretty much all the trait means: Anti Fighter = No dodge save, they can target whatever you like and other guns can target fighters just as easily, its just that 99% of the time the fighters will just dodge (ok more like 83.33333% of the time but you get the general idea :P)

Just have to say i am mighty confused how the mini-beam manages to be quick enough to hit fighters but too slow to hit whitestars (or other dodgers) though. Just one of those bad choice of wording that throws off the immersion in the game environment as you scratch your head and say 'how exactly?"

Hmm, I'd always assume dthat it was just plain anti-fighter, but rereading the rulebook you're right, it explicitly states when targeting flights.

I've always played it as straight anti-fighter though, even though my WS suffer for it.

i'd say it's possible that it actually should say "unit" but instead says "flight", because the trait was intended to help against fighters, so it was the more apropriat choice between "flight" and "ship". my impression was the more imporatant part fo that rule was the range limit rather than the "flights only" implication.

Personally i tend to play it as working against white stars because my oponents don't really like me using them, so i have to make concessions (mini-beams can hit them, amagedon WS only even though everything else uses SFoS ships, etc.) as they are my favorit ships.
 
Now, something related that came up recently:

Since hiding in a dust cloud gives you a dodge save, is that negated by AF as well? Strictly from the rules, I´d say yes, but the save is explained as the difficulties of the attacking ship to target the ship within the cloud, not as an actual attempt of the target to evade the shot...
 
i'd say AF does negate the dodge, because AF typically means the weapon is either much more accurate, or fires in a less avoidable spray. Either one of those could explain why they're easier to hit ships in a dust cloud.

I think if it was ment to not be affected by AF weaponry it's be a stealth score instead of a dodge score. as stealth does actually fit the "they're hard to see" concept better.
 
Yeah, AF weapons would negate the dodge gained from a dust cloud.

LBH I told you about the mini-beam just before final victory, you said you'd have to remember that... short memory, I guess ;) Most likely its a "loophope" in the rules but thats what they say so thats how they're played.

can i just ask about asteroid fields, if a ship in the field cannot taget ships outside, is that the same that ships cannot target a ship in them, effectivly making it a hiding place?
 
Yes, that is correct, you cannot shoot either into, out of or across an asteroid field.
If both ships are inside however, they can shoot each other.
 
thanks burger, just making a play map, a bit more interesting to try and defeat these minbari, stealth is a pain, tell me dont suppose fighters because of thier speed can fly straight through an asteroid field?
 
Nope... but they do get a bonus to their CQ roll when entering an asteroid field, +2 I think? Though if they do get hit, their great speed means lots of AD coming their way... lucky they can dodge!

Sweet, I'll have to add a load more Drakh Raiders to my list for Q-con since so many people are going Minbo. I can shoot you close range, but you can't A-F me. Go dodgy ambiguous rules! :D
 
yea right, thanks, i suppose they have to roll cq checks on each damage dice from the asteroids not just 1 as a whole, thanks for the help, still a bit new to the game, its much aprieciated
 
No, the CQ check when entering an asteroid field is just 1 roll. The difficulty is the density of the field, with a +2 bonus (I think) for fighters. If you succeed, you're fine. If you fail then you take attack dice equal to the speed you moved at, but any hits can still be dodged.

Goodie, because hull 4/GEG 1 helps so much against Neutron Lasers :lol:

Hull 5 GEG 2 or 3 doesn't survive so much better, but at least with buckets of Raiders I can maybe have one or two ships stil alive at the end of the game lol
