Wave 2 Previews - Opinions Welcome

I am actually pleased with the quality. These minis will only need to be neatened up rather than re undercoated.

Quick question. Will wave 1 minis be to this quality once the first lot have been sold through ?

if so I am very tempted to wait for better quality on the basic troops and pick up wave 2 and the rule book in the mean time.

These do look much better and I think we're all getting to see what this latest generation of pre-paints is going to actually look like. I'm just going to keep my fingers crossed that the factory isn't pulling nother uickie. I'm going to reorder my preorder.

The paint quality has improved, though more importantly the sculpts have improved. There is no real sign of weapons drooping and the figures actually have defined facial fetures rather than a blob for lips and a Michael Jackson nose. The edges still aren't as crisp as the first preview.

The painting has improved a good bit as well. The headscarves are a bit muttled to say the least (though to be fair, they were in the originals too) and the camo is a bit rounded and overly large. At least enough to make it more than competitive with Rackham's AT-43.

I'd put them at about an 80-85% of the pre-production minis. Not the greatest, but having played another proxy game last night I'm hooked enough on the rules to probably stick with the official minis. I will probably still take a wait and see to some degree due to the potential for bait and switch by the production company. That said, I am not nearly as turned off and upset as I was by the first wave. I just hope the first batch doesn't scare away too many people.

I'm looking forward to Wave 2 vees.

I'll have to admit, these do look significantly better than the Wave 1, and do look better than most other pre-paints.

However, I'll still remain skeptical until I see a random sampling in person.

I'm impressed.
They still do not look as good as the first preview minis did (and I asume no one expected that), but there is a really significant boost in both sculpting and painting quality.
If things move on that way, everything should get allright.

If that wasn't one selected model then it looks better.
Camo is very good imo but i hope that the "face" or something near it can be repainted. Yet still it's not what was promised.

No opinion at all till I see actual production quality tbh.
It sounds like your process is get the basics done by machine then get a chinese bloke to add detail, so single figures sent over are always going to look good...
Still if they do end up looking like that then things should begin looking up...

IF these really are the true production models, not again "pre-release", then i'm really astonished. they look waay better than the 1st wave. the wash on the faces makes most of the difference,as well as loss of the white blobs(aka "eyes").

Matt, are these models in your hand or just pics? It would be awsome if these aren't the best of th lot, too!

IF they are production then it is a major step up. Would like to se them at different angles though. Will wave 1 be re-done to this level ?

Until all gets sorted out I don't think I'd buy sight unseen. I'd rather get them at a store and see them beforehand. Hope all goes well from now on.
Now if only you'd give the USMC the M-32 six-shot 40mm grenade launcher they are using now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unconfirmed reports say that one of the original sculpts had the MJ-nosed mini holding a baby out of a second story window in a Baghdad apartment building. As I said...these are unconfirmed reports!!!

Seems to be a definite step-up from the first photos of wave 1. I'm going to wait to see them in person and then make a decision.

Yep - much better.

Matt - can you let us know when / if the Wave 1 figures will be improved ?

Like above, I think I'll take a look at the actual figures as I was intending to go with MEA and USMC and these two 'possibly' had the worst of Wave 1.

What Mage said.

Matt, I don't doubt your sincerity, but your street cred is kinda hurting right now. Wave 2 Production Samples translates into what exactly? The "promise" of what Wave 2 "might" look like? Or perhaps how good they can paint samples to snag the next contract, before changing things.

The Wave 1 Production Samples looked pretty darned good, and then ... we won't rehash that. It's done.

As they are, in isolation, ignoring the Wave 1 issues, these look very nice.

Steve
