TROPHY anti rpp/missile system

Did anyone see this on NBC(us news) news last night? I have just checked back in with this forum so I don't know if this is addressed in BFE

Probably not going to be featured in the game unless there's a change in policy.

You can find more stuff including a discussion on Trophy in the Future Weapons thread.

Just read the story. IF that system is that effective and IF the MSNBC story is true, people should be in jail.

That plan immediately ran into a roadblock: Strong opposition from the U.S. Army. Why? Pentagon sources tell NBC News that the Army brass considers the Israeli system a threat to an Army program to develop an RPG defense system from scratch.

The $70 million contract for that program had been awarded to an Army favorite, Raytheon. Raytheon’s contract constitutes a small but important part of the Army’s massive modernization program called the Future Combat System (FCS), which has been under fire in Congress on account of ballooning costs and what critics say are unorthodox procurement practices.

That's why it's not being fielded.

But hasn't the RPG-29 already been shown to defeat this system? Or was that just reactive armor?

If the system won't have a great deal of longevity because OPFOR already beats it, then why bother. Espescially since IEDs are such a greater threat than the innacurate and unpredicatable RPG-7.

Trophy wouldn't be bad if you could apply it to uparmored HMMWV's, like the Warlock system.

LOL, having just been involved in several extensive trials I wouldn't say that they are either unpredictable or inaccurate :)

I thought I read a ways back that the Army's ve3rsion would be an improved system over the other which waas causing delays. IF it is an improvement then I could see waiting some but not too long

Nope...

And a better question would be "Is it reusable without having to be reloaded?

According to the report (which major news can be biased) the manufacter says that it can be reloaded via an autoloader.
One thing I wondered though was it seems to need to "see" to hit the target, I wonder how armored/hidden the cameras/sensors are, and if they can shot up with small arms first.

Most AFV sensors are vulnerable to small arms fire - I don't see why this would be any different :)

They don't get that way until they've been exposed to the elements and rough handling for a few years. You wouldn't want to testfire one today that was salvaged from a BMP wreck in the mid-eighties :D
