Traveller Changing Hands - Q&A

There was an appendix in the original document that had the straw Foreven subsector by subsector, but it didn't make the final cut. And I didn't even realize it - I should read all the way through the stuff I write after it gets published, but I'd rather read new stuff. Probably wasn't worth the page count or the potential for controversy (as appears to be evident in this string of comments).
I can understand that, but it would still be an excellent download for those that could make use of it. Like me. ;)

I have to say I disagree with this pretty strongly. The players are going to go where they want and that's just part of being a GM. This isn't a choose your own adventure book. The sky should be the limit, and I don't mind the work that comes from building as they go. It's not my job to limit the players. It's to work with them to make the magic happen, even if it wasn't something I'd planned on.

Once again, you do you and I'll do me.
Which is what I said. IF I wasn't willing to do the work, I wouldn't set up a campaign where the work was necessary. It is easy to set up a campaign, even in the Marches, that will never go anywhere near Foreven. If I set up a campaign that is on the edge of Foreven, I'm committing to developing Foreven.

On the other hand, if the players say "well, we are going to leave the map because we can" after being made aware that I don't have the time to develop that area, they are being jerks. Because obviously, I'm not creating plot threads or other hooks that lead into areas that I'm not intending to develop. That is intentionally disrespecting my contribution to the game and my free time.

As for the you do you/I do me thing, you are asking Mongoose to create work product covering the reserved area instead of developing content elsehwere, that is in demand and not reserved. Like Gvurrdon & Antares. Once that material exists and is supported, it automatically erodes the Reserve status others are relying on.

That's why the previous semi-official Foreven stuff was never adopted by Far Future Enterprises, unlike many other 3rd party and fanzine originated sectors.

I’ll stick with what I said. Having a gaping hole next to the Spinward Marches is inconvenient. With the apocryphal data Gier made, I can work with that. I just didn’t realize it existed as it wasn’t in the book, only the map.

As for our gaming/DM styles, I’ll stick with you doing you and me doing me, as I said.

Matt, on the subject of DTRPG PODs, can we get more of those, rather than just PDFs, please? If nothing else, the Traveller Adventure book as the "Vol 2" to the Classic Traveller rules book would be a great addition. Ideally with a matching cover.

Can we also assume that Mongoose has a similar plan in place?
If you have kept up with the State of the Mongoose reports, Matt has made it clear that his succession plan is transitioning Mongoose Publishing from "Matt's business" to an employee co-op operation. So, yes, there is a plan for how to keep Mongoose in business after Matt retires.

First question.
What did you get.
CT, MT, TNE, T4 - how about GT, T20, HT.
The boardgames and Traveller adjacent boardgames you have mentioned, what about the other GDW IP such as
Dark Conspiracy, Traveller 2300, C&D, Merc2000, (T2000 for that matter).
Second Question
does this mean we can forget about the T5 player's guide and galaxiad or will those ever see print
Third Question
Marc's cds/USB are much better value for money, any chance you could sell those on his behalf and save postage costs?
Dark Nebula/Imperium, Azhanti, Snapshot, Striker? What happens to the Martian Metals and Citadel 15mm portfolio?

Azhanti, Snapshot and Striker are part of CT.

Martian Metals and Citadel presumably still keep dealing with the licence holder, which is now Mongoose.

It would be great - and a lot of work. It cannot be a priority, but we would like to return to the older editions from time to time and improve the files.

Basically this. The idea is to create a self-sustaining vehicle for both Traveller and the people who work here that extends into the far, far future, across the generations.

I know this is only slightly related, but as I haven't seen any other news about this for some time, I thought this is a good chance to ask about this: Will this affect Cepheus Engine in any way? Or rather: What has been the result about Cepheus licensing? I remember there being some open questions about the future of the MgT1 SRD OGL stuff.

What would be the way going forward for indie publishers to work with Traveller-similar rulesets without specifically using the setting, is basically what I'm asking :)

Hi! I'm a new(er) Traveller Referee who only started running games this year, and I have a couple of questions that are either license related or business related -- so I'll go ahead and take my shot and ask them!

1) I'm from the United States, and try to support my friendly local gaming store by buying hard copies of the books there. My question has to do with distribution -- what's the state of book distribution outside of the UK in places like the United States? It sounds like my FLGS has been having a difficult time for the past couple of months finding stock of the Traveller Companion 2024 reprint with their usual distributors. Going forward, I suspect pre-ordering prior to release helps distributors and my FLGS plan for inventory levels and anticipate demand, but do you have any advice or thoughts for new folks who have missed the boat for products that weren't released too long ago? Is there anyone I can point my FLGS to if it's just their usual distributors they are having trouble with and distribution and stock levels are actually great in the United States?

2) Speaking of my FLGS, more short adventure modules so I can run one-shots at said FLGS and spread the word! That's a statement rather than a question, but if I had a question, it would be along the lines of "What are your thoughts on encouraging local play and onboarding new players, and any plans on the horizon in that department?"

3) I saw there's been movement on the VTT front with a pull request to make the Roll20 sheet official! Do you have plans or a timeline to start selling compendium or adventure module content on various VTTs outside of Fantasy Grounds (which is a fantastic VTT, just not one I own)?

4) I have access to a Cricut and recently learned the art of making shirts for my (very noncommercial) personal use that feature various corporations from the Traveller universe for when I'm running games (in my case, I have a Lysani Pharmaceuticals shirt for running Death Station and a GeDeCo t-shirt when running Pirates of Drinax). I'm not an expert, and I suspect a lot of licensed merchandise is more often a money sink rather than actually something that makes business sense, but do you have any plans or anything to tease -- or if not do you have any crazy ideas or pipe dreams for merchandise or products you'd like to see happen?

I'll stop there -- the longer I sit here the more questions I have and I could come up with. I'm a big fan of Traveller in the short time I've been with it, and I'm looking forward to the future!

Very disappointed about the lack of a prospect for Traveller branded pencil sharpeners. Will continue to make do with the generic ones.
... but how will I now sharpen my Traveller branded pencils? (I think they're from a Mongoose Kickstarter? :D )
