Traveller Changing Hands - Q&A

Very excited, and I love the fact that you had all these contingencies when to announce things and the Old Man just did his own thing, and spoiled the surprise.
The only question I have is, will we be getting a T-Shirt to celebrate this event, also congrats on you guys and MM ensuring his legacy continues on.

Thanks for the updates! Looking forward to a bright far future!

What will happen to some Traveller products on DTRPG that are being sold by FFE with POD and all, like The Traveller Book and the Facsimile Edition? Specially for the Facsimile Edition, will it continue to be offered for free with a POD option?

Nothing will happen - they were transferred to us in January...

This is excellent news. I am pleased that Marc got to guide and control a smooth transfer of rights, that he still remains involved for as long as he wants to be, and that the rights passed to a company that obviously loves and cares for Traveller as much as the fans.

To expand on what I’d been hoping for. I’d have liked to have had a sourcebook in the pipeline for the Zhodoni like you did for the Third Imperium that fleshed them out and did Foreven at the same time. Even one for the Aslan. They deserve more details.
Not to be a broken record, but a Ziafrplians/Gvurrdon book would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

(And I was pleasantly surprised I even got to do that much with it - what's in there counts as apocrypha, not canon - except for the star map and the handful of defined worlds)
It’s just a pain to want to go outside the borders of the Spinward Marches and have a sector with the Zhodoni and who knows what else without even the worlds defined to do trading. I wish Mongoose would have at least do apocryphal UPPs and borders for it all that we could work with. Creating it all from scratch is more than I have time or enthusiasm for.

That's in the Sector Construction Kit as the example sector. UWP for all of them, with the Avalar Consulate and an alien race on the Zhodani border roughly speced out.

I have a free set of wargaming rules I wrote that I received written permission from Marc Miller to publish, as it is Classic Traveller adjacent. Is there anything I need to do now?

Are they all spelled out? I'd have sworn I looked. Off to look now.

I see how I missed it. I went through the book looking for the UPPs but they are only on the map. Any chance the UPPs could be made available in a single sheet or, preferably, a text file that could be uploaded to travellermap without a ton of copy/pasting effort? That would be very helpful in using it for myself. And thanks for spelling it all out. That's a big help.

I remember Marc mentioning having a 'succession" plan on a podcast recently. I'm glad to see that Traveller has been given into some capable hands. Dare I say, A New Era for Traveller.

I owe a debt to Marc for igniting my imagination that I can only pay forward, because it's far-far-far to great for a humble purple Aslan to repay directly. I'm absolutely thrilled that Marc is still young enough to continue shaping the Traveller Universe, even if he does so from a sunny beach with his toes in the sand and a drink in his hand.

Sorry, but they absolutely should not be uploaded to Travellermap or made "official" as that would be a direct contravention of the intention. Which is to allow the GM to create their own Charted Space setting and have a place to put it in the map without causing problems.

Obviously, with the news that Mongoose now owns Traveller, they can undo things that Marc set up ages ago, like the Foreven Sector Reserve. But I don't think they should.

If I didn't want to map a region of my campaign and some of my players were like "we are going there anyway", I'd just be like 'I hope you have a GM lined up for that". That's just them being inconsiderate. Personally, I wouldn't set a campaign in the Five Sisters or Darrian space if I didn't want to flesh out the Foreven sector's border subsectors, but if it was work I didn't want to do, I'd expect my players to respect that.

I didn't say they needed to upload them, only that with the right file I could do so for the maps and things I personally do. I'm not advocating a global change, though I believe that the number of people that would get something from an official sector far outnumber the few who use it as a private reserve.

With a compatible text file, I could create names and make my own map for my players, as well as change things to suit my taste without having to build it all first. I could customize it easier than I could build it from scratch.

You do you. I'll do me.

I have to say I disagree with this pretty strongly. The players are going to go where they want and that's just part of being a GM. This isn't a choose your own adventure book. The sky should be the limit, and I don't mind the work that comes from building as they go. It's not my job to limit the players. It's to work with them to make the magic happen, even if it wasn't something I'd planned on.

Once again, you do you and I'll do me.

There was an appendix in the original document that had the straw Foreven subsector by subsector, but it didn't make the final cut. And I didn't even realize it - I should read all the way through the stuff I write after it gets published, but I'd rather read new stuff. Probably wasn't worth the page count or the potential for controversy (as appears to be evident in this string of comments).

Are you being given any documentation to Marc’s answers on any of the various secrets and mysteries of the Imperium still unrevealed? I’m thinking how much we would have lost if Tolkien’s son hadn’t published the Silmarillion and other works after his father’s passing.
