Traveller 5E

This thing that stopped being true about 30 years ago is apparently the main thing the average person "knows" about Traveller. 😈 😟

Some of their promo:

"World’s Largest RPGs brings its ambitious, comprehensive publishing approach to the far future by converting Traveller, the most influential science-fiction TTRPG of all time, to the latest edition of the world’s most popular role-playing game."

can't argue with Traveller being the most influential sci fi TTRPG...

"All of Traveller’s classic themes remain: free traders chasing profit on the edge of civilization, mercenaries taking contracts in bizarre, alien conflicts, explorers pushing beyond the frontiers, interstellar adventurers jumping from port to port, job to job, making their mark upon whole worlds, systems, and sectors."

covers things nicely...

"This campaign includes BackerKit exclusive perks you will not find anywhere else.
  • Early access to the finished conversion before wide retail release
  • Special edition collectibles
  • Digital and physical rewards, from deck plans to miniatures"
I wonder if there will be physical minis and deck plans...

"Traveller 5E meshes all these science-fiction elements with the most classic heroic game system, making for long-term, open-ended play. Everything is included: hyperspace starships, space combat, interstellar travel, exotic creatures and worlds, all the element to run epic space adventures."

No mention of the Imperium...

"Traveller’s iconic character generation and other rules are seamlessly merged into 5E
  • 5E backgrounds have been wrapped into Traveller's careers, which remain mostly unchanged
  • Every skill is preserved as a proficiency or feature
  • All varieties of combat are recast into the familiar steps we all know
  • Every immersive universe-creating system is faithfully reproduced
  • And, yes, your character can still die during character generation!"
I would like a bit more detail, life path character prior experience?

"Every decision made in Traveller 5E impacts the story. Between the missions you accept, the risks you take, and the allegiances you forge to succeed, every choice matters. Balance your credits, starship fuel, high-tech devices, time and health as you daringly travel between strange and wondrous worlds!"

I'm sure it is, but as one of the main criticisms of the game it seems a bit odd to include it in the advertising blurb.
I disagree that it is a main criticism of the game. It is certainly not everyone's favorite though and has been optional since Megatraveller.

The art is mostly (if not entirely) existing Mongoose art. The Aslan that's a head taller than the rest of that crew? Mongoose CRB. And that's no Mega Aslan, probably just a regular 6 and a half foot one, unless the other crew are unusually tall.

All four of the books are labelled "Players' Data Book", so that's concept art (not unexpected this early in the process). No doubt the other titles will become finalised over time.

It would not surprise me if there's no Chartered Space even if art of some if its aliens is used. Some folks might struggle with this concept, but you CAN have feline aliens that aren't Aslan, even if you're using art intended to be Aslan. As long as all the appropriate IP rules are being obeyed, no harm.

And today it is 870.

To put it in perceptive their world's largest dungeon got close to 3,000, when you look at Mongoose kickstarter campaigns the typical number of backers is averaging around the 1,100 mark.

They're already at almost 1,200 registered interest, so it is beginning to look like it might turn out to be a smart move to expand interest in the game.
