Tournament Saggitarius: Raid or Skirmish?

Does the tournament EA Saggitarius need to be rethought?

Thats just it though the tourney Sag HAS been beefed up a touch so fits at raid level in my opinion. If we were going to REALLY tweak the ship perhaps it should go up in hits very slightly for raid but keep the weapons as the tourney version (I actually LIKE the broadside missiles but its just too much for skirmish)

I took out a Whitestar on the first turn via CAF and with all of the missiles I ended up winning. 'Movement 0' type crits or 'No Weapons May Fire' were what did the Whitestars in. Crew loss crticials were also common.

Yeah, it was bad, really, really bad. I did make 1 mistake on my approach, but the volume of missles are really really bad. I know that I have no desire to ever fight the 10 sag tournament fleet. Frankly I have considered just slapping whatever opponent I have at an event that fields them. :twisted:

At the end of the battle with PTW I had 1 crippled WS, 1 adrift WS, and 3 dead WS. IIRC PTW's Apollo was dead, 1 Sag was dead, 1 Sag was crippled, and that was about it. I managed to kill the Apollo when I was able to get 3 WS on it's flank outside of range 5 twice.

I know it's been changed slightly in the Tournament version but I meant beefed up even from that. If it was to be Raid then maybe a few more hit points...it's really neither one thing nor the other at the moment. As a Raid level ship it's statistically much worse than almost every other Raid choice and at Skirmish level it's much better than every other Skirmish ship!
 
Yeah I know raid isnt quite right but as it stands currently it should be at raid level, if a ship is a bit underpowered for its level its no big deal as long as there are plenty of other choices for said fleetlist, but if a ship is OVERpowered there will always be someone who will exploit it and end up winning tournaments and things due to just having a cheesy fleet.

(basically if its a choice between a ship being overpowered or underpowered and rarely used, from a design point of view Id favour the latter (besides its a specialist ship, so in my oppinion it doesnt HAVE to be as good as others of the same level in every situation, as a raid ship it still quite a nice long range fire boost for EA)
 
100% agreed that a ship shouldn't be overpowered if it can be avoided. It's hard to get a rules fix that all people agree on, especially when Mongoose themselves and the playtesters have made zero comment on the issue (IIRC) and don't look like doing anything on it. I don't mind if they're keeping quiet because they don't want to say what they're doing but at the moment we don't have any sign that something is being done.
