To all Shadows: need new Fighter mini!

Please read before polling:

If you look at most of the races' fighters, they are large enough and detailed enough to put the time in to paint decently. Look at the Nial, Vorlon, Star fury, Thunder- bolt and even the Vree fighters and you will see the injustice we Shadows are having to shoulder.

The Shadow fighter is tiny, and looks more like a casting error than a mini. My Shadow fleet has ten Shadow ships and 6 Hunters at this point. That is more than 80 Fighter flights for the fleet should I fully fill it out. However with the terrible figure that now exists, I'm not even going to buy more than the ones that came in the box set.

Please join with me by taking this poll and by sending an e-mail telling Mongoose that we want a new Shadow Fighter.

I agree with Da Boss in improving the current stats. I'd also, however like the idea of using the B5 Wars medium fighter as a new separate unit for the shadows.

There are a couple of questions I would like to answer, again I am just one Shadow player.

First, the "as seen in the show, and therefore okay." statement. This is not the show. It is a table top game, and the pieces are representative. If you still think its right, compare the Babylon 5 station with any of the other minis produced for this system. The station is supposed to be 5 miles long. If that is the case, these ships are titanic in size. Your statement is therefore non-sequitur. If you need more evidence, take the Centauri Vorchan. Using Directed Energy Weapons, this vessel can move farther than it can shoot in a turn: is that in keeping with any sense at all?

The second: the "I like it!" option in my poll. You are right. I am completely biased. I think the Shadows are the best "bad guys." that have ever come along in a Sci-Fi series, (no arguments please, Matrix, Star Wars, etc are good too, but movies) and I think they should have great sculptures to represent them. The tiny, spiky, can't determine if its flash or an intended spike, hard to see thing currently being used doesn't have an "I like it" option. That is my opinion. Compared to just about all of the other fighter types available, they are in my opinion frankly, pathetic. If I could sculpt, I would sculpt my own. I would like to point out at this point that the Vorlon Transport was the same size as the Destroyer. It has been recently resculpted and is more in keeping with it's size (wonderful job on that!) and abilities.

On the topic of other re-sculpts: Yes. I bought a G'Quan class cruiser. The wings where the upper and lower cross members are supposed to be attached is so thin, mine was fully bent over, and when I tried to straighten it out, the metal tore making it completely useless.

And as a closer, this is a small figure, and I believe that a professional sculpter could knock this out after coffee and before lunch, if even that long.

Your poll asked for our opinions on the Shadow fighter. I gave mine.

I'm well aware there are scale differences in the minis, but size was only one of your complaints: 'Its small, ugly... ', 'is tiny, and looks more like a casting error than a mini'. It may be ugly, but it is an accurate representation of what was seen in the show.

Or are you looking for a entirely new fighter that looks nothing like the one we saw on screen? To replace the one you consider ugly?

Actually, it wasn't resculpted. Mongoose just chose to replace their existing mini with the Fleet Action mini to better represent it.

You might be interseted to know that you can still buy B5 Wars scale fighters, perhaps they will be more to you taste.

You are correct. I did ask for your opinion, you gave yours, and I discounted it. I apologize, that was not called for on my part.

What I would like to see, is a ship the size of the current Mongoose Vorlon fighter, with the looks of the ship shown on the Starship Modeler site, or as close as can be done when scaling it down. As it is now, it is hard to tell what it looks like other than having a couple small rows of spiny things with a square nose.

I don't know, am I asking for the impossible here? I play a lot of different mini systems, and I take pride in my forces, as I believe all players do. Since I'm playing this system and my current fleet would have 84 fighter flights, I want a good looking mini if it is going to take up that much of my fleet. As a mini player, would you want less?

I've just looked at mine and you are right, the Shadow fighters are pretty small in comparison to some others.

You aren't asking the impossible. You just went about it in a round about way. A simple post explaining why you disliked the current fighter and a request for Mongoose to consider a resculpt, would probably have gone down better.

But bear in mind that Mongoose have a large number of new sculpts for the second edition as well as existing ships that require new moulds.

If you chose to use the B5Wars scale fighters, I don't think anyone would object. Plenty of players use their old B5 Wars models in games of ACTA.

One final point, you mentioned that you got a badly bent G'Quan. Have you contacted Mongoose about it? They are pretty good about replacing substandard minis.
