TMP: IWM: Babylon 5 Miniatures Return

Looking good. Might make me return to the game, and get my fellow players moving again as well. I guess it really depends on availability, although I´d think that the B5 miniatures should eventually be available through the same channels as Battletech.

Hi guys, as promised , heres the response -

'Hi Rob,
Well, we just got all of the molds and such from the folks at mongoose, and
we are still trying to
figure out the line ... the packing information they sent us was rather
confusing to us, which didnt
help much. ( please bear with me here - the Bab5 is all new to me, and I
still have a lot to learn )
... I just figured out what a fighter flight was last week, when we were
packing some of them up.

As I understand it ( from the packing list we got from mongoose ) a fighter
flight is x6 of the little
fighters and one of the small bases with 6 holes ... We think mongoose was
packaging them
x24 per pack, but other flights on the packing information had a fighter
flight listed as having
x12 fighters ... and one flight was listed as having x18 fighters ... (
??? ) ...
We've asked around a bit, and from the feedback we've been getting, we will
be packing them
with x12 fighters and 2 bases in each pack.
So - the prices would be for 12 fighters / 2 bases per pack.

Theres still some confusion on this end regarding the larger ships - which
ones were packaged
with x2 per pack, which ones were x1 per pack, etc .... Obviously the larger
ones will be x1 per pack,
but some of the smaller ones may or may not be x2 per pack - we're not
really sure yet.
Any insight you may have would be helpful ... ( subtle hint ) ....

Thanks

On receiving this I sent Melissa the list of the complete range, including actual packaging quantities (Four Flights!)....:)

So - sounds pretty expensive for the fighters then.

Pity, one of the few things I need to buy are more fighters. I was going to stick to 6 to a base but looks like I will be re-basing what I already have at 3 to a base.

Need to also replace some Whitetars and recently found two of my stored, unopened Sunhawks have some missing pieces. So will be replacing those and probably buying s few extra to paint in Pakmara colours.

Still its infinitely better for the game to have minis back in production.

I'm not so sure atthe prices we've seen. existing players will be happy to fix up a fleet for sure, but new players may be a bit put off.
I was going to order more shadow furries, but may just base my existing ones 3 to a base. Mmm, I nede some of timeslips stands.

IWM's prices for fighters have been inconsistent due to them not knowing how many to package. This has meant that the price is pretty much the same but the number of fighters varied in that preliminary list.

FRP have prices for fighters on pre-order that much more match what we saw for Mongoose's prices. For now, I have no idea what it will end up as but I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up cheap or expensive!

If the fighters end up overpriced people will just use counters or find other ways to stretch the number of flights they get per model. Maybe IWM will increase or decrease prices as a result. Only time will tell.

Hi Guys,
As promised the response from Melissa at Iron Win -
'Oh My !!!
MANY THANKS !
( Yaaay ! ) ... ( Big Cheesy Grin ! ) ... ( Spinning around in the office chair ! )
This will be an enormous help to us ! We filled some of the back orders for the
folks at mongoose, and I had no idea of how many went into each pack.
( now I know I packed a couple of them wrong ! )
I've been trying to get a correct packing list together, along with images, and
this will help soooooo much !

I'll have Mike check into the 'War Without End' stuff next time he speaks with Matt.
As far as the 'Gropos' Molds, I havent seen any troop or tank figs yet - but that doesnt
mean they arent here ... ( we may not have been able to identify them yet )
We just got in a couple of more boxes of molds from Mongoose this afternoon, so
they're still coming in ... I believe they plan to run the molds that just came in this week
so we can figure out what we have ...
I'll let ya know what we have as soon as its identified.

And Again -
Many Profuse Thank-You's !

And the 'Official' response -

If this helps, here is the official announcement, which should help the confusion.

We are still trying to iron out the pricing, and I'm sure some folks will be upset if the prices
are higher than they are used to paying, but the cost of metal has gone up considerably, and this
unfortunately means the price will reflect this.

IRON WIND METALS PROUDLY ANNOUNCES THE RETURN OF BABYLON 5 MINIATURES

Earlier this year, Iron Wind Metals licensed the Babylon 5 miniatures line from Mongoose Games. After several months of prep, we are ready to begin re-releasing this fantastic line of classic Sci-Fi space ships...

The Babylon 5 line of space craft is a wide-ranging and detailed line, and we at IWM feel that we can bring to the table our years of miniatures experience to allow us to raise the quality level of the miniatures to a higher plane than they have previously seen.

Eventually, we plan to over-haul most of the existing designs. However, we are aware of the existing demand for these miniatures, and so want to offer as many ships as we can as quickly as possible, while maintaining the highest quality level possible. Therefore, our re-release plan for the line will go in several stages...

Step One: We have returned to the roots of the Babylon 5 miniature line, contacting the original sculptor for the line, Behrle Hubbuch, who is re-mastering and re-working the ships from his original master molds, to return this great line to the level of quality it deserves.

We plan to begin officially “re-releasing” a number of these re-mastered designs about every two weeks, starting the week of October 20th.

Step 2: We have thoroughly examined the existing molds, re-cutting and re-venting where necessary, in order to pull the highest possible quality that we can from the molds that we were given. A few of those molds were in very good shape, and we will offer them for ordering ASAP. That list will follow soon, posting to our website and e-mailed out, probably next week...

Step 3: There are many molds in the line that were simply too worn to allow us to get the quality we demand and the players deserve.

Those SKU’s will be unfortunately be unavailable until such time as we can re-master and re-mold them.

A fairly large number of ships, however, are in good enough shape, after our mold makers worked on them, that we can offer them now, as is. These ships will be cast to the highest standard that we can manage, given the molds that we have. As soon as we can re-master them, they will be officially “re-released”, but offering them “as is” now will get product out to customers that really want it in a hurry.

Look to the website for further updates...

Hopefully designs won’t change very much, if at all. I would be disappointed if I ended up with two versions of the same ship. Even the remake of the Hyperion, while superior, upsets me when I see it next to my old school ones.

I wouldn't mind at all if that means like ships like the White Star and the Sunhawk end up being the right size! ;)

I don't mind there being cosmetic differences between ships - that can easily represent how a ship design has evolved over the years. The Hyperion is a perfect example. It's been in service over all 3 EA eras - I would be surprised if the later examples are identical to the first ones launched.
On the flip side, changing the scale of ships in a redesign would annoy me. It would be a lot harder to argue that a new mark of ship has resulted in the ship being 1/2 of the size.

This only makes sense if ALL the ships were to scale. They aren't. To make the white star the right size, they would have to be made the same size as the white star fighters and the size of the other ships would have to be increased dramatically.

Ya I would be happy to see them change alot of ships. Many of them are greatly out of scale to each other. Some need to be to be able to get what they want on the fig and thats ok. But the Nova is larger than the Omega in pure size. There are alot of others to. but I will just be happy to get some figs again.

There are a few ships that don't have any mention in the current list or future launches...

Victory Destroyer
Marathon Advanced Cruiser
Explorer Survey Ship
Tantalus Assault Cruiser
Hermes Transport
Ka'Bin'Tak Super Dreadnaught
Vorlon Heavy Cruiser
Vorlon Destroyer

The only things mentioned for Drakh were the Sa'ria'stor and the Kama're.

There are multiple pricings for Centauri ships, both in released and future releases.
