Yes they did since technically any video signal oproduced by a computer is CGI.

Tron 1982, so they did have CGI of a sort.

Now I was under the impression that the first film to use compter generated graphics of any kind was Westworld in 1973.

Of course they cerainly didn't use them for effects in Airwolf (except maybe computer screens :) ).
 
I didn't know about 2001's Jupiter being computer-generated, but there were lots of (what look like) computer-generated diplays in the cockpits of the Orion orbiter and the Earth-Moon shuttle.
 
A lot of what looks like early CGI isn't, the Guide stuff in the H2G2 TV series was all hand drawn animations that looked like CGI.

Those screens were animated film clips and rear-projected onto screens in front of the actors. It's pretty darn convincing -- even by today's standards. The chess game in 2001 was impressive and looked like video games from the 80's.
