The use of AI generated content in TAS products

To take the temperature of the board on the use of AI art in TAS products, I have created a neutrally worded poll. Feel free to vote.

And once again prove my point.

Nope, I am not moving anything. Laws are enforceable, how I feel isn't.

Here we go again. Ramping up to the personal because the argument doesn't suit.

I have yet to see a counter argument of any worth. Veiled personal attacks, claims or moral superiority.

how has my argument come up short? I am not the one trying to cost someone their livelihood.

Who is going to judge me?

That's my view too, I'm not trying to upset, just discuss.

I know, I have seen the opinion expressed many times and by many others, it is not a universal view, and I would never seek to cost someone a living over it by encouraging a boycott. I admire your principles.

If that is how it came across then I have been clumsy. Until the law comes down on one side of the other then it is a personal choice. Even when the law is settled an individual can still opt to buy or not buy.

No, I am wrong in your opinion, and likely the opinion of many others. It changes nothing as you say.

And I will call you out for trying to cost one group of people's livelihoods over another group. You don't want to see artists out of work but you are happy to drive an independent producer out of work?

Your opinion, the facts remain to be seen.

And yet you will dictate to others?

I will do so.
Feel free to advocate as you see fit. I’ll do the same.

Agree to disagree is for pineapple on pizza, not for narcissists. There's a whole philosophical discussion about it, but I am too lazy to repost it here.
So stop throwing around nasty words you mean as insults. Especially since said word applies to you as much as to me or anyone else who thinks their view matters enough to press keys on a keyboard.

I would like to see AI art credited as such each time. That's not being done already, but would be a compromise position for both sides, consumers could avoid it if desired.

I'd like to see AI writing barred completely. It really doesn't provide the value its' prompters imagine it to, it's a universal mark of shovelware so far, and TAS doesn't need to be dragged down by shovelware.

Perhaps Mongoose could provide free art assets to TAS members etc or collect a list of artists willing to work for free so that small publishers can get their product out the door.
LOL now that is gonna be a very small list, but hey if you are willing to provide free art by all means im happy to go that route

PLEASE people lets be kind to each other. we all have our points of view and no body is going to change anyones minds. let Matt decide and we go from there.

i would hate is we disallowed ai art and it would the end of my support for TAS but i will abide with whatever Matt chooses. lets just remember at the end of the day its about love of the game not about our choice of art. this does not need to turn into a hate session.

Free for uncredited commercial use is fair game. The creator has given up any rights in such a case. Providing the AI doesn't use any other material.

Go check out the great work posted at the FB group "Traveller RPG AI Tools" or "Dungeons and AI" - it can hardly be called "AI slop" and honestly, as the viewer you have no idea whether an image contains 1% AI or 100% AI. I've had users tell me they couldn't distinguish my work from paintings published in D&D rulebooks, (I did a series on classic D&D spells - you can find it on my author page on FB). When you are postng in a group of people putting out high quality content, you don't see a lot of slop in that competitive area.

I'm a multimedia artist with an art degree - adding AI to my toolkit didn't take away my credentials. I didn't want to be an artist who lost my job to AI so I learned how to use it to bring my vision of my Traveller universe to life. With some success. The stuff you will see in my galleries isn't "AI slop" straight out of the AI's butt - it is taken into multiple programs, edited, manipulated, enhanced, and put together with intention and purpose from the beginning - its not random.

Putting that together took expertise across multiple programs; it wasn't random and it took hours to produce. I haven't seen a lot of videos with lifelike characters wearing Vilani name tags. It's a process that's not as easy as people make it out to be.

I think expansions with AI art are better than no expansion at all.

Can you get a lot of weird looking stuff out of midjourney? Yes - but that's not he only program in the world, and it does take training and skill to get good at this - I can add or remove anything I want from an AI scene - and my AI artwork is largely copyrightable, since it is based on my underlying art in many instances.

Indie producers don't have budgets for professional art, and good AI art (I take commissions) can bring a lot of beauty into the world of Traveller (or D&D, GammaWorld, take your pick). As a commercial artist with over 40 years in the industry, I wouldn't hire an artist to illustrate my work, and I still wouldn't after learning how to use AI as part of my toolkit.

Being able to produce artwork on par with the big publishers is one way of leveling the playing field for indie publishers.

I have some products that could be TAS material if not for the stigma of AI (which only SOME people really care about - the vast majority enjoy it as far as I can tell). I even had somebody following me around the FB groups trolling me and trying to get me kicked out for posting AI art (in groups where it is allowed) - only to find out that he was lifting AI art from my website and using it in his YT videos. LOL he blocked me when I pointed it out. So it seems people who complain about it sometimes secretly like it or can't tell the difference.

People are losing their minds over AI art - I've seen people make themselves the self-appointed AI police, then have full-blown public meltdowns on social media over it. It's weird.

Can you guys imagine a world where there are no Tolkiens, Lees (Chris, Stan, and others), Monets, Tupacs, or Heinleins? The world feels like a drearier place just thinking about it.
LOL its funny you mention Tupac since he was a rapper and rapper use other peoples beats in place of making there own music, but i suppose that gets overlooked.
