The Long Cold Wait has begun...

From what Matt posted in the annual update for the year ahead it looks like nothing new for the Conan RPG is coming until Summer '07. Then we will get a 2nd edition rulebook and a bestiary. Since the 2nd edition will contain new rules it makes some sense that no new material comes out until the rulebook does.

But is that the case? Do we have until Summer '07 to wait for more Conan? Or can we expect some releases before the rulebook launch?

I'm guessing that Conan will still be represented in Signs & Portents, which is great.

But as far as new material in book form, has the long cold wait begun for us Conan RPG fans?

Anyone know? :D

Though I would like to se some new books too, I am also skeptical of the new edition due to the outcry on the forums for major sweepin changes to rules i enjoy and have become comfortable with using.

I also don't mind the wait, cause I need to catch up on purchasing the Conan books too, acquiring the books i currently don't have and will need to run the future campaigns I have set, such as Argos and Zingara and Shem, and especially the Conan Compendium.

Well. Just because people lobby for changes on certain subjects does not mean they change at all or if they change only by small steps rather than radically.

And finally: You don't have to use changed versions if you don't like :D Use old rules instead if your gaming group prefers them.

I suspect the changes will be more incremental in nature, to clean up various issues and a general freshening up, e.g., use a more current skill list, tweak Defensive Blast, add in Temptress, and some other minor matters.

I don't mind the wait much, as I need to catch up on my purchases anyway.

I am also a little concerned about the changes for the 2nd edition. Hopefully, it is just some corrections, additions, clarifications and expansions rather than sweeping changes. I do remain confident in Mongoose to produce quality products.

Here here DaveNC. I agree. And I like your point to Yogah. :) I don't think the book needs huge changes, just some rule clarification here and there. (And bigger Darlage additions to the book too.)

Catching up on the Conan purchases I need is the biggest positive about the long wait.

Maybe it's because winters are so long here in the Northland but mid summer sounds like more than a half year away.

As an owner of the original mistake filled rulebook - and my first nightmarish experience learning D20 still fresh - I'm hoping the new rulebook doesn't change drastically. I'll buy the new edition but really I'm looking forward to the Bestiary (long time coming!!!) and the big campaign (also a long requested product!)

And those who don't need a Bestiary then you don't need to buy it. But, I've always wanted one - any RPG worth it's Gold Lunas has a Bestiary (monster Manual, whatever). 8)

I have enough material to keep my group busy until the summer, so the wait is no problem for me. Anyways, I sprinkle my own adventures that I've written in with the published ones, so I'll never run out of ideas or things for the group to get wrapped up in :)
