The Borderland: Errata

You can, but it sounds like the original is TL 11.
I think Geir typo'd the start of the second paragraph.
Yeah. That. More like braino'd. The 'airframe' - with armour - is fine at TL10+, so I wouldn't mess with the armour - except the incorrect value is what makes it overweight in the first place. In no case do you need 2 tons of power plant, though - unless we're suddenly interpreting something as no partial ton power plants all of a sudden (I'd still argue for a 1 dton minimum, but custom jobs bigger shouldn't be an issue). But... keep with the refitting rules, you have allegedly 2.72 tons to work with (or whatever it really comes out) to re-jigger the design.

Actual the right way to do it would be to first make a 'standard' TL12 version with TL power and drives, then figure out how to mess with that design and the engineering compartment space to work up a 'legal' TL11 non-standard version. But I have dinner in the oven, and re-editing that isn't getting done, so I'll leave it for someone else...

The spreadsheet doesn't include the penalty for refitting. If @Arkathan wants to take a stab at it, I'll let him do it.

oh. gee. THAT's not going to be a major revision...
or a month of new errors after.
I meant a try at making the fighter with the refit, not adding that to the spreadsheet. :)

You could simply add the extra tonnage to a hidden compartment and take a swing at revising the fighter.

Here is Geir's TL 11 version made "legal."
Reduce Power to 17 3x Reduced size mod; you have a cockpit, so your pilot will die after 24 hours + 8 hours of Vacc suit - so fuel for 1 week. Increase cargo to .19999

If you go with TL 12 for everything, the power plant can be smaller and have a lower power rating. Cheaper on the M-Drive too, since no longer prototype.

Arkathan and Terry, you guys do great work! Why isn't Mongoose paying you two to do the ships instead of whomever is doing it wrong currently? Just have the writers send you two their ideas for ships and have you two design them to fit the writers' vision. :P
The creators should make designs that fit their vision. That said, if they ever want some pre-publication double-checking, I'd be happy to help, as would @Arkathan, I'm sure. All they have to do is ask.

While I didn’t change this for any of these revisions as I didn’t want to upend the creator’s vision, one thing I do for military ships and larger merchant ships I design is give single occupancy staterooms to the captain, pilots, astrogator, and leaders (officers). Everyone else gets double occupancy or barracks for the marines. That could have allowed them to have the full military crews without major changes.

EDIT: I went back and made versions with by the book crew complements where I could and added them to a separate zip file because it bugged me that bad. If you're going to have rules for crews (or anything), the designs in the official books should reflect them.

I would agree with this, except apparently, they are not capable of doing this and following the rules.
Well, I would submit that that is what a second (or third) pair of experienced ship-designing eyes could help with. The creators need to create, and the others would check the math and quote those pesky rules that need to be accounted for.

I just know that some writers are "rules-light". Those writers should not be trying to use rules that they don't know. Especially when people on here are as skilled and willing to help as you two. I am not rules-light, but both you and Arkathan are better ship designers than I am. I use too many house rules to be allowed anywhere near designing Canon ships. lol
