tank gun stablizer qestion

Mongoose
on page 40 it states that any weapon on a vehicle must reroll succesfull hits if it perfomed a move action during the turn even special moves would the american tanks be exempt from this rule

The reason we ask is that the rule states something to the effect that "Because most tanks did not have stabilizers..." What about the ones that did?

According to the rules as written, Sherman tanks act just like any other tank in the game, so they are not exempt.

The Gyroscopic Stabilizers that the Shermans had needed to be maintained and used properly in order to work, and even then they were only vertically stabilized.

That said, if a supplement came out that allowed the use of stabilizers, you boys would be interested? :D

*shrugs* Just noted an inconsistency there is all. The rules are very clear that Shermans are not exempt, just wondered if it may have been an oversight since the rule mentioned the reason to be lack of stabilizers in most vehicles.

No - even equipment on tanks such as the Sherman is a far cry from what exists today.

I think perhaps with the level of 'grain' that these rules work on (i.e.broad) I don't think you can really factor in the fairly primitive ww2 stabilizers to the move and fire rule.

Stabilisers that weren't even particulary enjoyed by tank crews either from what I have gathered. Help from them must have been pretty minimal.

Most US and Brit tankers tried to dismantle the damn things whenever possible.

The notion of firing on the move in a ww2 tank pretty much means you wont hit a damn thing

Pretty sure U.S. policy was to stop to fire anyway.Interestingly early war British tank gunners were specifically trained to fire on the move, wheter the policy had seased by 44 I do not know.

yeah, it was the doctrine for the cruiser tanks. I imagine after littering Africa with stray 2 pounder shells they propably reconsidered the idea

Ok - so most of the tank crews worked to disable them. The vehicles were still equipped with stabilizers. What would the game effect be for such equipment?

I have seen a rule somewhere in another game that required the crew to make a skill roll at the start of the game to see if they actually used the stabilizers or if they disabled them, and Flames of War actually includes them in the game's mechanics, granting an extra shot on the move but making the shot a little more difficult.
