Tactics

Basic tactics stuff:

Find cover - if you can't be seen, you can't be shot.

Don't bunch up. Avoid those nasty "within 1 inch"/"within 2 inches" extra explosion dice that can diminish your cover bonus and diminish your existence.

Be carful with your positioning. Leading from the front is all well and good until you get a 125mm tank shell in the face and the rest of your team does a passable version of Hudsons "The sarge is dead!" moment.

Altitude negates cover. Seize the high ground if you can.

A lot of military doctrine is based on 1/3rds. Split your force into 3, one part to engage the enemy, one to flank them and one to exploit any breakthrough's or re-inforce where nessecary.

Tanks are fire magnets and aren't invulnerable. They are also the majority of your anti-tank capability if US Marines or EFTF.

On the other hand, tanks are fire magnets so make excellent concentration diverters to get your opponents attention focused in one place whilst you pull of a daring and cunning tactical ploy in another.

Always compliment a woman on her hair, her shoes and tell her she looks like she's lost weight. Not terribly tactically helpful - but good advice.

Don't eat yellow snow.

Much obliged, LBH.

You're welcome, though looking at the special rules on the card it says the extra dice aplly until the model moves, not until a move action is taken so I'd say the rest of the squad can advance under the cover of the MG

Use sunscreen - at night, right before you go to bed.

Add "in bed" to the end of everyone else's sentences.

When other people tell jokes, start to cry.

Okay, I'm done.

I had started compiling a list of tips and tricks before this thread existed. But I finally got them into a publishable format late (very late) last night. Check them out let me know what you think. If you have anything to add or I missed something key in the list above by all means post it here. I'm not doing faction specific tactics yet, but those will be fleshed out both on the evocommand.com forum and eventually on the main site later.

Paladin,

Matt clarified in the main Rulesmasters thread that the Command Unit Special Ability only works if they're on the table, being in an aPC doesn't count as on the table apparently.

ok. thanks for catching that LBH. Easily understood for game balance.

Command tactics have been modified accordingly.

this is pretty generic, rather than specific to evolution, but if your opponent spreads out over a wide front, unless your mission objectives mandate it, keep your boys together.

Especially if you can use terrain to block his fire, you can trounce half his force with all of yours, while the flanking force is floundering.

Also, never ever get your guys so far apart that they cant bail each other out. Any squad, team or unit should be able to receive supporting fire from at least one other element, to bail them out if the poo hits the fan.

another good tactic is dont go for tank bait, if your tank is about to face another tank but there is a bunch of infantry grouped together, shoot the infantry and wipe them out, use little guns first, then if you need to use big gun, if you dont need to use big gun on second action due to unit wiped out, thenshoot other tank.

allways keep mission objective in mind, ie killing modles as many modles as you can. a shot at a tank may kill the tank but the same shot at infantry in cover bunched up could kill 8+ serously taking your oponent down to his break point.

But if said infantry has no anti tank capability and the tank does, you should shoot the tank first to secure your own safety, unless you really are close to the shatter point
