State of the Mongoose 2025

To a degree, perhaps.
Let's ask Heinlein:
But you haven't learned yet that when in Rome, you shoot Roman candles. Every tribe has its customs and what is moral one place is immoral somewhere else. There are races where a son's first duty is to kill off his old man and serve him up as a feast as soon as he is old enough to swing it - civilized races too.

Traveller sales declined after Megatraveller changed it?
Not changed the rules but put out a product so bad it was unusable. It was a person who was really high on LSD produced the final printed product. Whole groups of people who were buying and playing Traveller stopped doing so because of that.

Also, the suggestion of getting a Traveller: Star Wars license isn’t just a trite request for a popular setting to be adapted (it is that too, of course!). It is, symbolically a statement of intent from Mongoose that they can reach out to a much, much larger audience and potentially, a massively increased market for the Traveller brand as a whole by association. It would be saying, in effect, that Traveller is practically as ‘big' as D&D.

The fact that they both share the same 50th Anniversary is also a boon. The modern Traveller system can easily handle the setting (as has been shown with unofficial fan versions) and I don’t believe any other company is really doing anything with Star Wars roleplaying currently.

There is nothing to get here.

FFG/EDGE still has Star Wars license and considering how SW boardgames/miniatures are big part of their business, it is unlikely they'd be willing to part with it.

I have been respectful and on point throughout this conversation. You have been snide, dismissive, and disrespectful.
So fuck you and your point of view. I no longer feel you have any intelligent opinions on anything.

Fuck off and have a nice day.
He is very possibly the most arrogant and unpleasant person on this forum and, given how the rest of us treat each other, he is competing in a very strong field, there.

One option, that would take away too many resources, and considering the requisite artwork requirements, is to have a Collectible Card Game offshoot.

All the pregenerated characters, weapons, vehicles, events, and actions.

Could be specialized into faction decks.

There was, possibly still is, a Traveller CCG... don't you own it? Nope, me neither which shows how much a CCG is to Traveller marketing.

Whenever anyone on another rpg forum asks about Traveller I point them to the free MgT starter pdfs and the free CT Facsimile edition.

The current starter bundle is Explorer's Edition plus the two free adventures Death Station and Stranded. I would add the Merchant's Edition to that bundle, and also have a few pregen characters. There needs to be another two starter rule sets, one for army/marines and the other for navy

My group today were Traveller newbs. Not one of them had played it. After experiencing it, two say they’re buying.

They had HEARD of Traveller (the game where you can die in chargen) even though it’s no longer true.

There was… I backed the Kickstarter and was super-psyched…

The art? Fantastic and evocative.
The quality? Very well done, cards feel great in the hand, additional components like tokens are well done.
The rules? Completely different than Traveller, doesn’t feel like Traveller at all. Also a very complicated turn sequence that doesn’t feel intuitive at all. The fluff text on the cards seems to actively avoid common Traveller tropes. And the use of counter-intuitive icons in the rules means you have to constantly look up what the symbol means - why not just print the word as well?

Clunky and slow gameplay and winning feels like a slog - like “whew, that’s done” instead of “heck yeah!”

Anyway, big fail.
