STARSHIP TROOPERS STILL DEAD?

Mongoose
IS STARSHIP TROOPERS EVER HAVE A CHANCE OF A RULE BOOK COMING OUT . IS IT DEAD FOREVER . DID MONGOOSE LOOSE THE RIGHTS? I WAS GOING THROUGH MY STUFF AND I WILL NEVER PART WITH IT AND WANNA PLAY AGAIN! CAN ANYONE FILL ME IN . IVE BEEN AWAY FOR A LONG TIME!

I don't remember reading anything about when SST will reappear. My personal guess would be that it won't appear until Mongoose gets their miniature production going on again.

Why? While you and many old hands have a bunch of minis already and only need a new rulebook (if you want to use new rules, that is) it won't create much more market. SST as well as Gangs of Mega City 1 has one problem over WWII, Modern and Vietnam era games and that is the fact that there are no figures that you can use with those two games unlike in historical games (where you can get more or less easily minis by a third party manufacturer).

Anyway, that's my take on it and I could very well be wrong on that one.

actually, with the B Evo developers pack, we could just make a SST module, or rather "one suitable for this or any space genre that doesn't violate someones intellectual property".

Hey, power armor is power armor, right?

It's really just the points system that's tricky. Does the DEveloper's pack have the points systems? It seems from the replies on that thread that it does not.

Basically, one could just take the new rules, and the old stats/points and work with those.

Trouble with doing this is that players are bound to have arguements over the fan made rules, and be biased to their favourite army.

What I think would be good is if Mongoose could do what the makers of Future War Commander did with Epic/Warmaster, and create a new SST with the rules from Battlefield Evolution, just change the names enough to avoid any legal issues, they could even do rules for those 40K armies, again change the names enough to avoid legal issues, and don't show ANY photos of the models in question.

Call it Battlefield Evolution: Space Battles or something like that.

It worked for Specialist games, can't see why it can't work for SST/40K.

It does not include a point system. That is up to the author of any Logo Licensed book!

Exactly. I'd be shocked if MP didn't do a "generic" sci-fi BE game. But then again, I've been shocked by MP a lot over the last few years....

Agis, thanks for finally answering the question about points!

There are plenty of proxy figures available, especially for those people who didn't like the movie interpretation to begin with. If nothing else, I would hope people can think of a substitute for SICON powered armor that is readily available  . Sure, your bugs might look a little different from their bugs, but that's the power of Arachnid genetic engineering for you.

There are generic SF rule sets out there; they presumably make at least a little money. Not sure if it's worth Mongoose's time to pursue the market, but I can certainly see a smaller publisher taking it on.

IIRC Mp has the license through 2009.

As to new minis/books SST progressed from minis coming back in 2009-2010, to new ruleset, to a PDF rulebook, to dead:

From the last thread, by M Sprange:
"The other blow, of course, is that we also have to pull away from Starship Troopers - however, I'll be dropping by the SST forum soon with something that might make SST players a great deal happier. More on that soon."

I can understand why they might not make minis for ST. I can't understand why they would axe the SST forum (one of the largest and busiest at this site), not have playtest armies for BE: SST, etc. That's the real mystery to me. All the rest of it is just, well, "business".

The war of the species playtest rules were published publically shortly after that point. They have since been removed from the website.

Me either. I think tempers flared and the desire to get rid of the complaints/questions/issues pushed things off the cliff. It was a daily firefighting job vs. flame wars for a while.

For bugs? Suggestions?
I wouldn't kick anyone out who showed up with Tyranids. I do have a high tolerance for proxies, though.

I suppose I was thinking of a more generic set of futuristic rules, though, with more generic armies to go with it: powered armor humans, "normal" humans, ancient race of grace and wisdom, slavering arachnid horde, and so on. That lets you use existing figure lines, or take advantage of manufacturers who enter the market later. Like Victory at Sea, or 5150, or Defiance: Vital Ground, or various other products out there. I'm not looking so much for a SST replacement (since it seems like most people are happy with version 1.0), as a generic set of rules that's a little easier to get a handle on than the ones I have. That means you can use any SF line out there, or even some modern ones.

I think I might take the "Devo Pack" and try to write up something small and generic for the local group to playtest. As I am less of a points player and more of a fan formations deciding what you field I am not worried about the lack of a points system. If it works out and the local group likes it, I will take the next steps towards getting it out for public consumption.

in feb my gaming group is doing a giant starship troopers mega battle ! were just going to use the old rules . but use the new reaction rules found in the new battlefeild evo books!
