Speed 0 ships, modest suggestion

Oh yeah, what he said, thats the other half of it.

The game is a representation of dozens if not hundreds of factors. You cant know all of them, and still get to play a sane and enjoyable game.

this is why ships reduced to 0 speed should still drift forward 1/4-1/2 their speed. it cuts down on the whiners. and represents inertia. (mildly)

also, you do know this is just a game right. there is no mini universe dependent on this manuever for the sake of their lives. its the rules. play and deal with it. if you dont like it make your own system and see if anyone wants to play with you.

Sounds like speed 0 is going to turn " Adrift ". Guessing it also has a wee bit do to with Lumbering & Agile traits. I would guess that lumbering can only turn at the end of it's movement & agile can turn earlier. Damn 2 ed making try figure out whats going on. Also hazard another guess that escort trait means you can go as slow as the ship you are escorting.

Escort sounds like a good call.

Ka'Tan escorts for me G'Quan weeee.....

one happy puppy.

On a more serious note, how do Tigaras escort a Neroon in any other way? using all stop just so they dont drift faster than the big ship on full engine power?

(sry one joke for the boneheads put there ^^)

Pretty good guesses.

Not nearly as good. :)

If you're going with the adrift rule, how do you deal with two adrift ships moving onto each others' bases? (I've played a game recently where a drifting hulk nearly moved onto a speed 0 stationary ship).

Although I discussed this with Kat and he was of the opinion that the ships would not collide, as it is 3d space. However, if it is 3d space, why the prohibition on model bases stacking?

Also, the 'ship must stop short of the enemy base' is well and good when the ship(s) have power to slow themselves down, but if the ship is drifting a set distance each turn, and happens to collide with another, does this result in a collision?

Will there be rules for collisions?

I think an Accidental drift, it is assumed, that as space is really big, the ships go over ir under, the deal with stacking bases is to keep it tidy!

Okay, but then I want to still be able to fire my Mass Drivers at them. Speed 0 is one of three situations I actually get to use them, and the other two (all Stop, and Space Stations) don't tend to happen around here very often.

That's been my only problem with speed 0 vs drifting. We can hit a ship at a dead stop, but can't calculate little things like current heading and speed and then fire a little ahead of where they are?

well you could just change it to 'unable to hit targets that havent CHANGED course and speed this turn rather than stationary but that just gets more complicated in terms of record keeping (and if you want to play like that play B5Wars or Full Thrust)

Hrmm if escort is not good enough a guess.....

either Neroons are still suckers for being left behind by the fleet.......

And maybe escort just allows you to add an escorts fighter defense capabilities to the ship your escorting? I mean esocrts do try to protect their big ships, yet you hardly see that in ACTA, unless the escort is a hyperion prtoecting an Omega, but that is mostly the escort of being a fire magnet....

Just guessing ^^.

We ought to have a "guess the 2nd ed changes" competition :)
