Space Western - Would like Your Input

This is getting ridiculous!

I actually have to design a starport with cattle pens!

Really?
I would have thought it would be a very ineffective way of transporting food between planets - wouldn't it be more efficient to have stockyards and slaughterhouses/processing facilities a little distance away from the starport and just load up the 'tinned meat' onto starships - live cargo takes up more room, needs more resources en route, etc. Of course, as an alternative, you could have large atmospheric shuttles set up to travel from ranch to ranch with processing facilities on board, then it just delivers the finished product to the starport to be loaded onto ships.

And no cattle drive? Are you crazy?

No, No - the shuttle would BE the cattle drive, lol!

That's not a bad plan, actually - consider a star system as described:

Arse end of nowhere, with local tech that can build and maintain M-Drives but not J-Drives and zero real security in the local society.

Two Gas Giants a convenient distance from the mainworld.

Lots of independent or semi-independent farmers wanting to get their herds to an end buyer without them passing through anyone else's hands (or wallets).

Having a shuttle 'cattle drive' where each farm or farm group has a big, low-tech in-system hauler heading to rendezvous with a megafreighter being fuelled up at the secure outpost at the gas giant isn't a bad plan.

On the way, you have the possibility of...interference?...by various parties - a megafreighter will only come along so often, so local space will be full of haulers, and should their rivals happen to suffer an 'engine malfunction' and not reach the GG until the megafreighter is full....more space for your herd!

Massively ineffective. On the other hand, if you're shipping meat across star systems then it's probably already a luxury item - it's not beyond the bounds of logic to declare the planet's produce the 3I's version of Wagyu beef - i.e. raised on the rolling plains of Loneseda, shipped to you live through jumpspace and butchered fresh.

Oh - one suggestion; more to open up interesting possibilities than for a simple Western clone - make one of the predator species very similar to the 'beef' - possibly it deliberately resembles it to allow the predator to slip into the herd? - or else make the 'beef' potentially agressive, even carniverous, itself.

Law level sounds okay for the requirement. As noted, the ribbon is there to prevent a derringer (or whatever) being a 'concealed weapon' by announcing its presence, as 'a pretty 'lil thing shouldn't be burdened with no big shootin' iron'.
