Something like AVP, but not exactly.

Mage

Mongoose
I know AVP has been talked to death about on this site, and that the license is not worth going for, but i remember the concept being like space hulk with different aliens on a ship, etc.

I was thinking how much the concept of the factions and things could be changed to still have the same coolness and feeling, without mongoose getting sued by fox? It would be easy to base it on a book or video game, but that would not appeal to most gamers. Maybe something original?

What could be done? Zombies I suppose, or some Mongoose created non-license line?

Or would the concept work with Star Trek? Some lone Federation soldiers trapped on a ship being boarded by Cardassians, Jem Haddar, Hirrojin, or Borg. Granted, I probably spelled all those races incorrectly, but the idea seems cool.

What do you guys think?

From the licenses that Mongoose have, Starship Troopers is the obvious one to develop into a game like this, going with fighting the bugs in their tunnels :) Given that Mongoose are off to do nice pre-printed plastic miniatures anyway, the only thing they'd need to develop as well would be some geomorphic plastic tunnel sections (maybe marked out with an inch grid on them) and a streamlined version of the SST:Evo rules to run it with. The best bit is, you could use these bits with the full game in any case.

Or have a tile board, and maybe do a few new miniatures for the epxansion, like what GW did with Mordheim and the like.

How about bringing back Kyromek and making it a board game. Nexus marines vs the Kyromek beasties. Make both sides ultra realistic and very ship based (boarding armour, tunnel beasts etc.) and have fun.

I think this calls for an SST Evo Mod.
If SST/BF Evo are out finally I think they really should do a mod forum.
The systems are so felixible that they allow nearly anything.

I'm working on a quake-like mod for SST right now (for CTF-Scenarios) and I think you could do far more with the rules.

Yes I agree, kryomek could use some revising to give a better more of a look, I was thinking of making something like a aliens type thing with colonial UNSC marines delving into colonies and ships fighting of waves of a species I am planning to make called Juhmagand(think something like aliens and zombie type things for the doom movie and a bunch of other nasties I could possibly make) all played on a modular installation interior board I made and with my own rules to boot. And yes I'm actually doing this, minis come after I buy pathfinders and CHAS :P

Why not do a smaller scale SST. Replace Aleins with Arachnids, Humans with LAMI or MI, and you could make the Predators some Skinnie Guards with cloaking technology or something. Throw in a few extra rules, and you have your own version of "AVP" without buying liscences.

You know, I think this could work. People are pouring millions of dollars into making a Magic-killer game (Spoils). A Space Hulk-killer game is much easier, because GW insists on fighting with 3 arms tied behind their back: they won't reprint.

I'll second making it a SST mod, though. Basic game being an MI bug tunnel sweep, but additional rules for fighting inside giant bug transports and adding Skinnies and Forth.

Trouble with that though is
a) too obvious.
b) Arachnids are to big and half the fun of Space Hulk was having Termies. Exo's vs Warriors aint much.

Just invent new races, its pretty easy, hell MGP give me the word and I'll have 3 500 word summaries for the main three groups in a day.

Too obvious? I'm afraid I don't get this objection.

If you're inventing new races, why not just call them new Arachnid species? I mean, you've got all this infrastructure, both physical (miniatures molds) and intellectual (background, rules systems). Why not make use of it? GW was at their strongest when they did this, IMHO.
