Sindal Map Legend

Bar-en

Mongoose
I have two problems with the map legend as it currently stands:
1) If "Secure System" is suppose to be analogous to a "Green Zone" then the map needs nothing to distinguish it from an Amber or Red Zone world.
2) The world icons should indicate the difference between them. When I look at the map I see fourteen Gas Giants and three Water Worlds.

The table should also list EVERYTHING that is from the World Creation rules.

You need to add:
Temperature
Factions
Cultural Differences
Bases (including Research Bases as well as Naval and Scout)

The worlds are listed in Alphabetical Order.

Every previous version of Traveller (and the Aslan Book!) listed the worlds in Hex Number order.

I realize that this is a preference thing and a Referee can do it any way they want, but for "official"
sub-sectors, I believe you should use the standard presentation order.

Unless I am missing something don't you need a Jump-3 ship to get anywhere beyond Theev? Not easy for most players to get, but I suppose it provides the incentive to upgrade. Thoughts?

Depends on the time you want to spend. You could start at the Chalchiutlicue system, go through Tobia down to The Borderland over to Tlaiowaha and up to the Oghma system and do so using Jump 2 the whole way. Corse that would take quite a while, I figure 10 or so jumps, but it could be done.

I don't have access to those maps so did not consider such a circuitous route. :) If I was a trader I would just stay inside that area rather than going that far out of the way. Which of course defeats the purpose of using that sector. If you want players to use the sector their ships have to be able to access it.

Oh I know what you meant. I just couldn't help myself.

Side Note: You should book mark The Traveller Map. It is a wonderful tool for looking at the various maps available for Traveller. They even give the source they used for the various maps. You can zoom in down to see the various systems or out to see the whole large picture and everything in between. I love the map and an grateful to those who posted it for our use.

This is down to me.

Hex order makes a certain sense - until you actually have to find a system quickly during play. Alphabetical is just easier for almost all tasks.

I would vote to keep it Alphabetical. I liked that I didn't need to look hard to find the system based on it's name.

+1, since I have been away from Traveller for such a long time it just feels normal to do it alphabetically.

They haven't given the best routing method to get around the Sindal Subsector. Most of this subsector was fleshed out during the Pirates of Drinax Campaign, during which it was revealed there is a Fuel Dump one Hex South West of Theev which opens up a Jump-2 route to the rest of the subsector via Noricum.

That really should be noted on the map or at least in the description of Theev for players who are going to use the setting and the planet in question.

Aw man, you can't just go telling everyone that. They gotta *earn* that knowledge!

In play, maybe. In a playtest, not really.

Not even just the playtest, what is supposed to be the sample setting for the Core Rulebook where Jump 2 is the standard on most ships. Leaving out that one piece of information basically cuts off half the subsetor without incredibly tedious navigation.

I'm not sayiing pop "Free Fuel Here!" on the map. It should probably be noted in the description of Theev. Then again, In universe everything about Theev is shrouded in mystery and records are never what they seem so as long as you enforce that your characters wouldn't know something without them learning about it... Should be fine.

You do realize that my comment was agreeing with you, right?

Play testers would need the information as part of their evaluation process even if in play it was meant for the players to "find out" about it through a particular adventure etc.

I do, sorry if it seemed like I was arguing, I was only trying to expand further on the point noting that yes this is a beta, but this is supposed to be what will be the sample setting for the core rules.

The second part of the reply wasn't directed at you, more towards the thread in general.

Where is the fuel dump exactly? I put it 1 hex south of Palindrome.
The SW of Theev is a better location, it allows a J2 ship to get to Theev, Noricum and Salif. My issue with that location is the party discovers the secret path at Borite from Krrrsh. This is on page 9.

Krrrsh says the fuel dump is approximately 1 parsec from Theev. But in the following paragraph the party trusts their navigation to "a drunken, traitorously incompetent Vargr pirate, the characters jump into empty space. Jumps like this are always nerve-wracking – if the jump is inaccurate, the characters will end up in deep space, with many years of sub-light travel ahead of them if they ever hope to see civilisation again." (page 9 again)

After a sensor sweep they find the fuel dump.

To get to the hex SW of Theev the party would have to jump to Noricum first, refuel and then jump to empty space.

Which hex is it located in?

I thought this thread was supposed to be about the map legend not an item from an adventure and whether or not it should be included in the new rules setting.
