Ship Cards

Frankly, I can't believe you even suggested selling them in the first place. As someone who has spent the last four years creating and maintaining ship record sheets for a Call to Arms as well as creating a computerized combat sim for the game, I can appreciate the amount of time and effort people put into all this work. But never in my wildest dreams would I anticipate making any of this into a money making venture.

PM sent in reply as this doesn't need to be discussed here any further if you're going to make this personal.

Can anyone smell Napalm? :P

And small nuclear weapons as well... I'm pretty sure you haven't been around long enough to remember his first foray into doing these with CTA, but it's the same pattern. Make a flashy card, ask others to give him all the data so he doesn't have to do the work, find some problem with the info/hit a roadblock and then quit on the project all together.

I'd love to see him get it done, but this little hissy fit he is having over copyrights and lack of monetary motivation is just ridiculous. Either get it done or don't. Stop coming up with excuses.

You were PMed with my response to your post and that is really the place for this sort of discussion. The Forum isn't a place for you to air personal comments about people.

If you want to continue to make some sort of public issue about this then go ahead but this really isn't adult behaviour and I'm not going to participate in this as its inappropriate for the Forum.

just a question for our fine german players out there - as the swastika is illegal in germany I'm sure you'd like a set of cards without the flag symbols on them?

Backwards is the normal workaround for that one ;)

actually it looks like I may have found a better solution. Use the "jack flags" instead of the national ensigns where possible. The German Jack flag from 33-45 had a red, white, and black stripe with an Iron cross, rather than a swastika.
Some countries didn't have Jacks though, all I can find for Italy is the ensign. I've found a jack flag picture for The Soviet Navy, the 48-star USN, the Union Jack of course, and Japan's is the Dot with no rays. I haven't found one for france yet.

Just a thought, but are we going to see a fleet list for australia?

I've seen that used in other situations. Odd though, I always thought it did have a swastika in it. I just rechecked it and it does indeed not have it.

Funny how you assume things sometimes.

I do know that, but did they have the same classes of ships?

All the RN ships were part of the British Common Wealth, so the likes of HMS Achilles was part of the Royal Navy, New Zealand division.

Ah... attempting to take the moral high ground. Well whatever man. Can't wait to see what you don't come up with.

Speaking of which.

InDesign won't work unfortunately. I can't export multiple cards onto a single 8.5 x 11 page for printing so I'll have to stick with Illustrator. I'm going to try to simplify the layout of the check boxes as they tend to be the one thing that slows down building cards.

She later became a part of the Royal New Zealand Navy when that was formed in 1941 becoming HMNZS Achilles.

I panicked a bit when I heard her being called that as I thought my painted model ship might have the wrong name stuck on it. So my ship's just pre 1941 :)

If anyone has a second I posted a PDF of the Japanese Patrol priority vessels and ships

The format for the check boxes is going to change. The colours won't but they will probably be a bit more uniform in the future.

Those are very pretty. I like them. Are you going to make all the fleets up like that?

I really, really like these! They are clear and very easy on the eye. I give them 4.5 out of 5.

The only thing that could improve them for me, would be to move the red shaded boxes to the other end of the damage track. It is a minor thing, but I would rather mark off damage from right to left.

Thanks for your effort! Is InDesign making this project any easier? I certainly hope so!

Anyone else have a comment on that?

It would but I can generate pages from InDesign that contain multiple cards so it would be a PITA to print them out.

I have tried to simplify the layout in Illustrator to make it easier to edit cards

Would it help if you could parcel out any of the work? I assume you are retyping that data and then dropping it into InDesign for placement. I don't know how to use InDesign, but I could type info into Word and forward it to you if that would help.

That might be helpful

Let me look at rearranging the text in the Illustrator files to see if its possible to make the entire card flow in one text block

If that is workable then the data entry could be farmed and then I could just drop in the text and format it.

Which would also make sure that more than one set of eyes checked the data since I am really bad at data entry
