Some excellent input and different views. I suppose my original idea/concept would be around the RPGA Living City/World - but for Runequest I would suggest keeping it smaller initially and maybe work through Mongoose to loosely coordinate an initial setting. Have a few people take on the roles and relationships of a few key characters and provide players with an evolving storyline - that players can interact with and GMs use for stimulus.
Something like that.
What I always enjoyed about Runequest was the world of Glorantha, the NPCs and detailed background - this have a firm and solid foundation for any GM to build upon - realism and rationality.
It would be quite simple to describe a situation, an environment, a boiling pot - then ask for volunteers to prime up certain factions and take responsibility for their interactions and activities. A highlevel 'game' can be played on an adhoc basic that builds the basic storyline and provides plenty of opportunity for characters to influence and interact. I'm sure that the primes would welcome help and PCs who take on tasks and help build the storyline.
I've always loved two scenario packs - Pavis & the Big Rubble and Griffin Mountain. Both detailed areas of land beautifully and provided enough background and NPCs for scenarios to slot into place.
I'll punt a few ideas for a setting and see if people prefer one over any other..
1) Static city-state (Pavis) with surounding areas of interest (Rubble) - also like Thieves World.
2) 'Island area' aka Prax and Griffin Mountain - notible land marks, interactions at a distance between 'tribes'/'factions', few cities/towns/citadels..
3) Horde - moving city. Designated path of conquest - interactions with cities/obstacles in path. Reason for 'being/motivation', various factions fighting for control of 'horde beast.'
4) ?? Any suggestions??
Is this in Glorantha and fitting formly with that background? Or do we provide flexibility and allow some margin for a Gloranth-like environment?
On with work....thx for the input folks
