Reloading Missile Racks

Sandcasters will follow the same rule.

For obvious reasons, I don't want to muck about with variable turret sizes in Core. High Guard would be the place for that although, to be fair, there are already a multitude of options in mounting weapons in that book :)

I agree, keep it simple! Never meant it as a better alternative, just a possible solution in case 12 missiles per launcher were the way to go.

As for sandcaster and ammo in shared turrets, I suspect that will be a nonissue when high guard lands, and as the core book doesn't contain options to install custom - or for that matter, any - turrets in empty hardpoints it isn't even an issue now.

Multitude of ship-related options, in high guard? Who would have guessed? :)

The number of missiles stored at the turret should be a fixed number.

Agreed, changed to per turret.

The alternative would be variable turret size based in the number of guns it holds.

On a related note, do sandcasters also contain a number of reloads within the turret, or how are they handled? If they do, what happens in a sand/missile turret, do both get half their regular magazine?

Perhaps sandcaster barrels are lighter and easier to reload manually, and just need some storage nearby?

That opens up another can of worms as far as how much space is available overall. The old way had 1 ton set aside for fire control per hardpoint, irrespective of the turret. Now the turret has the 1 ton and no requirement for the hardpoint.

So to keep in line with the paradigm shift it's better to simply state "A launcher (missile or sand) can store one ready round. Each hardpoint has .5 Dtons of storage space for ready ammunition that can be divided up equally among all launchers (missile or sand). Any additional ammunition must be brought to the hardpoint either manually or though automated feed mechanisms from an adjacent magazine" Now to make that work correctly you'll need to know the size of an individual missile, sand round or whatever. And I'd say you round DOWN, because, well, this stuff explodes sometimes, and regs being regs...

An explanation like that (probably worded better) universally covers turrets AND barbettes that are mounted on a single hardpoint. Even covers torp launchers. The rest of the 1 ton could be devoted to fire control, maintenance access, gunnery station, or...

for those gunners lucky enough to have an energy mount you get to add in a nice comfy couch, a turret babe\dude AND a really nice espresso maker!

I doubt that in a standard turret, after it's outfitted with weapon systems and local fire control, there's enough space to swing a cat, let alone manually load a missile.

A possibility as a fixed mount in u-boot configuration.
