Question Re British (and others?) MMG & Mortar Crews

The British 3" mortar unit has 3 models, one with mortar, two with Lee-Enfield.

The Vickers MMG has 3 figures, one with Vickers MMG, two with Lee-Enfield Rifles.

Can the figures with the rifles shoot at the same time the mortar/MMG are shooting? Or do the rifles have to assist in firing the MMG/mortar?

Nothing says they have to help with the mortar. They can shoot as part of the same shoot action. An interesting thing about this is how the LZ interacts with placing a FZ. I'll have to look at my book when I get home, but I don't think the Lethal Zone of the mortar is placed like a conventional shoot action (which places a Fire Zone and then allocates dice within it.) So theoretically the men with the rifles could fire at a point different from the mortar's blast. At least that's the way it was back in Starship Troopers. I'll have to look over the WaW book to make sure it's the same.
