The FGMP infantry is functionally very close to a Fusion Gun on a vehicle. The previous version(s) also had them at nearly equal values (apart from range)
However, with the current way you have scaling, your battle-armour mounted FGMP, would fire super-hot-awesome fusion, penetrating an enemy battledress made from TL15 material with ease. But when it hit the "steel/iron" of a 1970s volvo, it had a 50/50 chance or so of bouncing off.
Meanwhile, the "bigger" fusion gun mounted on the vehicle, would penetrate approximately 20 or so stacked battle-dress and maybe 10 volvos.
It does not logically follow, that suddenly the fusion blast from an FGMP which can penetrate TL15 battle dress, cannot penetrate a volvo made from thinner, weaker material, because it is on some magically different scale.
It's alright though, this big issue is being fixed.
... we can easily work out the TL thresholds to make sure that super hefty grav tank of TL15, doesn't have any more armour than that super awesome TL 15 fighter!
No worries, by fighter - I meant smallcraft fighter. Therefore, a TL15 grav-tank, shouldn't have any more armour than a TL15 smallcraft.
Functional Example:
Take the Darrian/superadvanced/callItwhatYouWant TL15 grav combat vehicle. It shouldn't have "harder" armour than a smallcraft (or spacecraft) of the same Tech Level.
Spacecraft rules state your Tech Level limits your max Armour (TL = max armour points to be exact). So TL10 = 10 armour max. TL15 = 15 armour max. This is in spacecraft-scale.
Since Vehicle armour divided by 10 = spacecraft armour. It means at TL15, I shouldn't be able to build any vehicle with more than a 150 armour. I was comparing the toughest TL15 vehicle to the toughest TL15 smallcraft when I stated fighter vs grav tank
Good observation there. IF my suggestion is adopted, addressing the skill difference(s) would be a consequence.
Supplement 5-6 The Vehicle Handbook called the skill Battledress, not VaccSuit. So there was Mongoose leaning that way at one point. In CT, Vacc Suit skill allowed some functionality with battledress armor and vice-versa, but not the weapon systems IIRC.
Perhaps you need standard Vacc Suit and Heavy Weapons skills to fully operate a battledress fully (no second Battledress skill, keep it simple), but you address power, weapon use, armor, damage, etc. as a Vehicle.
Yep, and there is still that STR bonus (punching and so on).
