NPC Cards - FINAL DRAFTS (All classes!)

Mayhem,

I have to say that the NPC cards have been a major boon for me since it gives me a large variety of sample characters to use in debugging my character sheet. I found some minor class features I had missed and one really stupid formula typo in my spreadsheet while proof-reading your cards. I'll definitely continue checking the other classes over time.

It's great to hear that you've solved most of the difficulties in calculating skill modifiers. If Access only wants to create a table, could you create another text field where you concatenate the all the entries in the table into one long text block? I've done similar things in Excel but as stated previously I'm pretty clueless about Access.

6. As with barbarians, Akbitanan weapons are not getting a +1 to hit.
I should say that this was also the case with the thieves, I missed it during my proofreading. Probably the same for all classes, maybe you've fixed it already.

I'm ready to take on another class for proofreading, anyone in particular you want done? Has anyone done the Pirate yet? Otherwise I'm on it.

It would be great if you checked Pirate, but you should wait until Tuesday, which is teh first chance I will have to post the sheets with the most recent corrections on them.
OK, will do.

In other news, I have now figured out skills!
Great!
Can Synergy be put into the equation? Also, have you thought about whether or not to include circumstance bonuses (such as all those "+1 when in the desert/mountains/forest etc.")?

Would it be of benefit to include the no of ranks spent in each skill? Perhaps in brackets after the total? I'm certain it would help the proofreaders, but would it be of general use also?

Bluff +5(3)
I think that would be a great idea, if there is room for it. It would help proofreading immensely, but would also be useful if someone wanted to customize the NPCs.

I'll volunteer to proof the noble skills. I did the rest of the noble cards and I have a template set up anyway. I want to chime in my approval of having the skill ranks in brackets. At least through the proof-reading process this would be very useful.

As far as the space between cards goes I think there's no harm in reducing it. One thought to keep in mind is that it might be nice if you kept the overall card dimensions some multiple of 3"x5" so that people can print them at reduced scale and then paste the result onto a note card. I know Sanseveria said he did it before with a little trimming and it sounded like a great idea. I'm not sure it's possible but it would be nice.

One additional idea that should require little or no work is it would be nice to have a single page of blank cards. This way the DM can write up some of his own NPC's and keep track of them the same way as the pre-generated cards. They could even serve as PC reference sheets for the DM so that he wouldn't have to ask players for information and he could use all the cards to keep track of initiative during combat.

Keep up the good work.

Mayhem,

I'm still working on the Noble cards. Checking skills is much more time consuming than I'd anticipated. I'm a little confused about one thing though. Are you evenly disributing points to cross-class skills as well as class skills at each level? This may become clear as I study the cards more but I thought I'd ask.

OK, I'll start checking the Thieves skills. I noticed that a couple of the NPCs were missing in the latest version though; level 10 and 11 (of both the Hyborian and Zamorian).

So there are two distributions - class skills points divided evenly between class skills, and INT skill points divided evenly between a few additional skills (which may or may not be class skills, but it doesn't matter).

Thus all skills are bought at a 1-for-1 cost, keeping things as simple as possible.

I had forgotten about the fact that Int points can be spent 1-for-1 on cross-class skills. However, doesn't the max rank limit for cross-class skills still apply no matter how the ranks are acquired? I think this is the nature of my confusion.
