No more metal flying bases?

All the acta minis I bought from my local retailer came with plastic bases. I would have bought metal bases for them when I do my last order from Moongoose. I can't find those metal flying bases from Moongoose website. Are they really no longer there?

I'd say that is probably the case. I believe they replaced them with the plastic ball and socket connector bases about two months ago. I know I was getting metal bases for a while, but everything I've gotten recently had the plastic bases with the ball and socket joint. Not that I'm going to use the ball and socket joint anyway. I use the Ninja Magic Magnetic Connectors and I've never had a problem with a broken plastic base with them. I like the metal bases for their weight but I'm not gonna cry over their loss.

I guess they ran out, I bought a bunch with my first "panic" order but you're right they're not listed anymore.

Maybe I can survive with the plastic bases, but not with stems. I still do remember how I broke 2 plastic stems when assemling my first mini, which was an Omega. What do you use for stems if you don't use those plastic ones?

Well they were on the store a fortnight or so ago when I ordered 16 of the small metal bases, so I hope theymake enough to give me those.

I don't know why people have so many problems with broken stems. I use the Ninja Magic Adaptors because I like being able to store the minis easier, not because I have problems with broken stems. Out of all the hundreds of starship minis I have, I've only ever broken maybe five stems. In any case if you use these I highly doubt you'll have another broken stem, barring some really rough treatment.

Brass rod maybe try that.

Are the Ninja Magic Adaptors as big as they look like? Is the hex flying base in that picture 25mm size?

Yeah that looks like a 25mm/1inch wide base. I don't have any with me right now, but from memory when assembled with both pieces, they are about 12-15mm long and about 5-6mm in diameter. If you cut a plastic stem off about 1/3 of the way down, it fits just right into the bottom of the strait connector.

At first I was afraid they would detract from the look of the mini and base, but on most ships I've found that you hardly notice them during games. I love them, if it wasn't such a pain to go back and drill out my old ships and attach these, I'd put them on all of my other non-B5 spaceships. Alas, I don't use them often so I'm not going to do it.

I just buy small rectangular rare earth magnets and attach them to the ship and the stem (cut off the tip) with a strong adhesive (goop works well, and is fairly shock resistant). But those connectors look interesting

I also notice a colony ship that looks awfully convertable...

I wish they still had them, I have had two stems and two big plastic bases break trying to get 1 ship based. And it still isn't based.

arrrghhhhh

I think this might have been answered somewhere else, but will the plastic ball and socket bases still be sold after the 1st.

I use 3/32in Brass tubing. Its easier to cut than whole rod and holds very very well. Just drill into the mini and put the tube in works like a charm. The hole in the base works very well for the 3/32 tubing and then i attach a heavy washer to the base and use magnetic sheeting or tape for the boxes i carry them in.

dont know how many yet, but ive got quite a few metal bases i dont want,
personally i dont like them, so never use them, spec as i use my own mounting any way,
ill list them later if you want em maybe we could trade something
