New ships in 2nd ed?

true but they dont have adaptive armour.

maybe the Scout White Star should have Stealth and the standard White Star Adaptive Armour - specialism?

I suppose the ISA just borrow Minbari stuff when they want to be sneaky !? :)

Lets see...
WS with Stealth (Using very rough maths)

Only about a third of my fire hits it, of which it dodges half, and the rest only does half damage...

Now you want me to only be able to shoot at it at all half the time (assuming Stealth 4)...

Oh look and it repairs itself as well!!! (well only a little and can still decrew it...)

I've received some good posts here, so I figure it might be a good place to post some additional questions.

1. Considering the two new levels of the Shadow Ships, is there going to be a new, larger sculpt to represent the Ancient Level ship?

2. I read somewhere else that the Marathon's stats have been released (and that they're lacking), but couldn't find where with my limited search-fu. Can someone fill me in?

Thanks, everyone!

It's my personal opinion only. I have no doubt others will be happy with it. It's from proofing thatI know them, sorry for getting your hopes up..... but it's not so far till release!

The new Marathon stats look perfectly fine to me! Not better or worse than the Omega, just different.

I'll send you my readings. :-)

And so the debate begins! :D

Indeed. For my part, I would say the Omega is the better all-rounder, but the Marathon is a better ship-killer - Triple Damage beams are glorious things. . .

except the marathon is far more fragile. although 2 turns is better for boresight beams than lumbering.

and i would say they average the same amount of damage each per turn with main beam but the omega averaging more crits.

What swings it (for me) is the difference in damage when those criticals come about. But then, I am good at rolling for criticals :)

The average damage done is virtually the same (slightly lower, because TD bulkhead hits do the same damage as DD), as you say, the extra damage from those crits balances out the lower number of crits.

What makes the Omega's weapon better is the number of crit effects is more than the Marathon's. So whilst it will do the same average damage, it will do more speed 0, knock out more weapon systems, reduce AD, knock out traits... etc.

But then the 2/45 turns means you'll actually have a good target more often.

Sorry Matt, but I gotta agree with Hiff.
The Marathon is and always has been a good ship killer, but (and it's a BIG but), they're made of tissue paper!

The problem I have always found in my games (particularly 5 point raids) is that the Marathon would only ever get 1 shot off with the main gun, before being destroyed, because it lacks the damage capability of the Omega.

From an analysis point of view, it's not that much more difficult to cripple a Marathon than it is to cripple and kill a Hyperion, so the Marathon is too squishy.

Personally I'd either have gone for a slower Marathon with more damage at Battle, or drop it to Raid but reduce the weapons (say a 2 dice TD beam).

I do like the Marathon model, so it will probably always be part of my fleet, but it'd be nice if it survived past turn 1.

actually, you are covering my points yourself :-)
The Marathon is more fragile, but doesn't have a coresponding damage boost over an omega (less AD on beams, fewer fighters) and ONLY if and when it gets a good crit will it be better, but then it gets less of those crits due to less dice!

A decent Marathon pilot would use those 2/45 turns (and smaller mini size) to get out of arc of the enemy... making it mure survivable than an Omega ;)
