New ships in 2nd ed?

Which might be worse. At least Squat players won't get their hopes up that there might be some army book a few years down the road.

too late, they already hope the Demiurg will be the new squats!

yes but squats and chaos dwarves are truely hideous models that don't fit in with the rest of the game, Mongoose would never produce anything like that........oh dear

the Chaos Dwarfs from the Hellcannon are lovely models and fit very well

as for the older models for both, well 10-15 years ago many of GW's models were hideous

anyone know if the whitestars are being upgraded a bit?

Don't know about their basic stats, but in the preview in S+P it mentioned that White Stars would come in two flavours, one with fighters and one with the Scout trait instead.

I always thought white stars should get the stealth trait, they pretty heavily based off of minbari tech, vorlon too what bits they could get from them.

If as has been said elsewhere the raiders are set as the bottom marker fleet, is there a single top marker fleet?

That depends on your point of view. I don't think their is intentionally a top fleet, but the traits and stats give certain fleets a higher tech 'feel' than others. Minbari and ISA are high tech fleets, while Shadows and Vorlons obviously have their adavntages.

i was hoping the whitestars would get a weopon or damage increase as well,
they dont play as well as the fight in the show, i think they need a bit of a boost, but can appreiciate playability issues could prevent it, but a stealth roll would be good

I always thought the SFOS version was about right, given that they're meant to be able to deal with much larger ships. When they reduced the Dodge ability they became far too vulnerable IMO although the reduced weapons capability isn't too bad. Glad to see they're looking at it again.

Whitestars don't get stealth. I'm not ruling anything else out.

Shadows: two new variants (although they lose the Hunter)

Sorry for this tiny bit of Thread Necromancy, but I've only just now delved into the Forums here.

So, I've just started collecting a Shadows fleet (starting with the Boxset). I was planning on getting Hunters (even though I abhor the model) but reading this above piece of information tells me I should hold off.

I'm thinking that one of the new variants will be the "young" Shadow Ship mentioned in the ACTA 23 preview in S&P 43. Is the Hunter getting "replaced" or just phased out entirely from the Shadow Fleet List.

Whitestars did get a boost, not sure I'm happy about it as it wasn't until after ARM that whitestars, played well with a couple of allied sinks, ever lost a fight. Most fights are still horribly one sided with them, though that can go both ways.

Keep in mind in the show they die horribly to some pretty basic Omega shots, and it usually took a few of them to kill anything unless they had a perfect beam shot. I just wish they had gone boresight with the beam...might have explained why you sometimes see them firing only the pulsar...

it's the selective canon thing again

FORWARD ARC BEAM FOR THE G'QUAN!
Join the crusade! ;-)

In the first few battles the White Stars take part in, we see them firing only pulsars, then Sheridan orders them to fire "a single heavy burst" (or words to that effect) from the front batteries, suggesting they're the Minbari equivalent of the laser/pulse array.

We have playtested the White Stars with boresight lasers. The White Stars are maneuverable enough that they can get a shot every turn. However they have to have initiative sinks (so gone will be any all-White Star fleet like we see in the show) and if the enemy has a lot of ships, the White Stars only get their laser shots on the Havens and Tethys, while the enemy can then move unmolested on the White Stars' flanks.

Oh, and the fore arc G'Quan, not inconceivable. :)
