Movement Question fighters vs capital ships

I'm having following problem.

The moment one player finishes off the others fighters, what can one do with one's fighters besides 'sacrificing' them as interceptors?

Since Fighters move before Capital Ships, how can one attack capital ships when there are no more fighters? One can't anticipate where he'll move to?

I'm forced to move my fighters (there are no opponent's fighters left).
I move them into empty space or return to my capital ships.

I'd be interested in trying to swarm a capital ship, but I feel I'm missing something in the rules in order to be able to do so.

I'm quite busy typing this, so I hope it's still readable... I've got my day of incoherent sentences today :p

Bottomline is: What did I miss in the rules in letting my fighters move to attack my opponent's capital ships?

2° edition

The 2 Red books...

I've must have misread then... So, first all capital ships move, and then fighters... indeed, that would solve a lot...

Lone fighters are not that regular and capital ships have longer ranges so the problem couldn't present itself anymore....

Thxs for the swift reply...

Under 2E rules, all the Capital ships move first, then whoever won initiative gets to choose to move fighters first or second.
