Lone Wolf as an Anime

Something that has bean peculating in my brain for the last week has bean a Lone Wolf Anime, I've worked out the Episode plan for the first season. my problem is working out the disciplines to give LW for the show, ones that would be interesting instead of the ones that would get him through with the least hassle.

anyway for the ep. plan for a 13 ep season 1, I was thinking go with ep.1-3 for Fight from the Dark , ep 4-6 for Fire on the Water, ep. 7&8 Caverns of Kalte ep. 9&10 Chasm of Doom then wrap up the season with a three part Shadow on the Sand

Season 2 would be a full length 26 ep. season budgeting 3 ep's per book with five to play with for any side stories (possibly not covering LW himself)or longer arcs towards the end of the season.

What do folks think? would this fly with either or both LW and Anime fans?

It... Depends.

Which genre of Anime would you be aiming for? Shonen or Seinan? Would it be a T.V. or OVA? (You can get away with a lot more violence and less formulaic action in an OVA.)

defiantly a T.V. as you would need 13 ep's to do the Kai story correctly and 24-26 to for the Magnakai, Target audience would best be adolescents & young adults so a rating of M 15+ on the Australian Film & Television ratting system and on the border between Shonen & Seinen (on the Seinen side of the scale if anything).

Personally, I'd go with OVA. Mainly because Record of Lodoss War (The first arc, anyway) was an OVA and unlike most T.V. series doesn't have to follow a formula, which deals with marketing toys or models or some such.

Now if you want Seinan, you'll need to add at least one more character, probably female, to help maintain a romantic edge.

Also, I would make it Anime based, but not Anime-ish, as a lot of things tend not to fit. Lone Wolf, is just that, a lone operator, who in the end doesn't need anyone to help him fight. Not a conventional T.V. spot, which tend to prefer making a cast of reoccurring characters.

Let's not forget amping up the action as well. Probably to near superhuman levels, because Anime thrives on high action as much as it does soap opera.

And yes, I have thought of this before. >.>

Sure, anime can be very good at story and character arcs and can do the gritty yet powerful feel of Lone Wolf. I'd like to have some British illustration work or at least character design for it so it has that as a starting point but anime takes influences from all over since its father watching some Disney cartoons back in the day.

You may want to ponder the numbers of episodes a bit more, mind I'm not as familiar with the later LW books though. However UK/USA and Japan tv seasons (or series as the Brits call them) can vary wildly (6, 12, 13, 22, 24 etc.) but since this all speculation, no worries I suppose.

I assume you mean 30 min (or so) length episodes? Also there's always a web show, ala The Guild.

Just found out this thread. Sounds good, but try and keep a slight Western feel to it.

In terms of recurring characters, other than LW, how about making a few of the villains a bit more recurring?

Flesh out Vonotar and have him in the first half of the season (which your plot pretty much allows for), then reintroduce him for the last half of the second season to up the stakes a bit.

With Gnaag, make him more of a character throughout the second season, same with all the Darklords. I am imagine for Caverns of Kalte starting off with Haaken trying to kill LW and sending the Helghast after him and Vonotar.

In terms of the other good characters, I guess taking a leaf out of Legends would help. Have Banedon in it more and expand Viveka's role. Not sure about Qinefer - do you need her?

Finally, perhaps introduce Naar early on and Kai and Ishir. Perhaps the the start of the first season, then have Naar grant Vonotar his power, Kai when the Sommerswerd is recovered and Ishir for the Chasm of Doom.

But overall sounds like it could be pretty good.
