Levels for the new Whitestar ships?

Hi,
not sure if its o.k. to ask this (feel free to delete) as I know some forums are funny about info from books before there release date but thought I'd ask anyway.

Can anyone tell me the levels (patrol, raid, etc...) for the new white star ships.

I was thinking about ordering some with the book but I don't want to get stuck with war level ships as we only play raid level just now.

Also any info on the fighters would be great.

my guess would be that the WS carrier and gunship would be war level. this is based on the existance of the Heavy White Star. because there is already a battle level white star the newer more powerfull hulls would likely be higher PL.

However it is possable that the WS carrier is only battle level, as it fills a different role than the existing white stars.

The white star fighters are probably patrole level, as to the best of my knowledge all fighters are patrole level. however the fluff says they are superior to the Nail fighter and therefor a wing of 1 or 2 WS fighters may be skermish level.

Given that there is huge amount of info floating round these forums about Armageddon, I don't think it will hurt to give you the PLs.

Carrier and Gunship are war. Fighters are skirmish.

It is a nasty anti-ship fighter with high dogfight. Not so good on the dodge though. They make the WS carrier a ship to be feared.

Even though it's a good dogfighter, I think that it will run into problems as it will be severly outnumbered most of the time. I'm guessing that it will find best use as a 'small ship' that will get in a first strike.

As for the Witestar Carrier, I reckon that it's better than a (well 2, given the priority levels) Morshin.

Thats going to be a good carrier to back up that claim, but it is the Nials that make the Morshin.

As for the fighter, the competition for a skirmish point is 2 Nials, or 3 Starfury and 3 Thunderbolts (or 6 of either).

Can't wait to see it.

I know

In terms of dog fighting, I think you are better off with the Nials - simply for numbers. However for damage potential and survivability against ships, Whitestar fighters all the way!

Without giving any actual data away (I've got my pre-ordered copy already), the White Star Carrier is much tougher (as you would expect), but, ironically, less able to deal with enemy fighters on it's own.

i will definately be taking whitestar carriers but no gunships. the gunship should replace the WSC-2 at battle level as its not really upto the war level of other races ships and i think will die horribly versus warships. a bit lie the Liati at war level. both these ships have one purpose, to kill the other and both are good at it, but they should both be batle level ships anyway.

the carrier and the gunship do both get a dodge score tho.

Likewise - although I have to admit that I've never been a big fan of the WSC-2. As for the Liati, I just don't like it. Well may be in one-on-one games, but even then ...

The Liati appears to be a very specialised ship, basically designed to destroy White Stars. Apparently that's all it's really good for, so placing it at war priority seems a bit excessive for a ship with such a small niche in the game.

Plus... it looks like a phalace with a collared shirt on...

(was that innapropriate?)

Even more than that, it doesn't look tough enough to take on 3 White Stars and win. I'm happy to admit that I'm no tactical genius, but 3 White Stars should be able to eat it for breakfast!!!

With sensible positioning they could easily defeat it. Apparently it only has forward weapons so they could easily tie it up with one while the other two flank it and shoot it to bits. Alternatively deploy two White Stars to approach the Liati from outside its front arc and jump the third in behind it. One White Star can manueovre to avoid its front guns as it turns to bring them to bear while the other moves around to the exposed flank and the jumper fires into the rear.

Smoking wreckage.

Of course if you take a single Liati against a pack of White Stars, you will lose. Same as if you take a single Primus against a pack of Ka'Tocs, or a single Sharlin against a pack of Chronos. Think fleet, not individual ;)

3 WS? Nah... one WSC-2 and 2 standard WS ;)

But like I said, 1 vs 1's are irrelevant. Virtually any large ship will get ganked by a pack of small ones. Liati vs WS's is no exception. I'm sure a WS gunship would get killed just as easily by 3x Prefect/Dargans.

You may as well go the whole hog and JP bomb it on the way in, the White Star is fast enough and manoeuvreable enough to re-aquire the taget when it enters play.

Unless it makes its dodge rolls it's probably dead, as you say. On the other hand it wasn't designed to destroy Prefects and Dargans...

You could do that, but it's hardly even sporting, is it?
