Interest in a SF ACTA tournament at Warlords of Walsall?

One thing we did in our practice game was to say that one allied fleet cannot benefit from the scouts of the ally. Is that correct?

Yeah thats right, because even though you are playing as one team, working together to secure a victory, it is still two different fleets. Consider it be allies of necessity, you're working together and not stabbing each other in the back, because you need to win . . . by the same token, your own fleets resources are something that you wont share with the other. Its probably starting to sound over complicated, it will be easier to explain on saturday, where we can actually see it in action.

That doesn't really make sense. If it's two separate fleets working together then it ought to be a 4 player game with each player controlling his own fleet, and no back-stabbing of your team-mate. If it's a single combined fleet then traits ought to be shared as they are with any regular combined fleet, e.g. League or Army of Light. You already are sharing your fleet's resources, namely the entire fleet. ;)

Besides, on Tuesday:

I hadnt intended for the sharing of any traits, as to me it was more like two fleets working together that wouldnt ordinarily do so, rather than one big fleet with two players behind it. So it is more like a 4 player game, but with only two sides, so no betrayals or back stabbings etc etc :p
There seems to have been a change, apparently it is now one big fleet with two players behind it. ;)

We just played it that you played as normal and moved alternative ships otherwise its going to get very confusing / you might as well play seperate games?
Not really, a 4 player game is very different from two 2 player games. The main confusion might be that you need to remember what everyone rolled for initiative. One compromise could be that each team rolls combined initiative; losing team moves a ship from one fleet, winning team moves a ship from one fleet, losing team moves a ship from the other fleet, winning team moves a ship from the other fleet, then do something similar in reverse for firing. Since they're two separate fleets there would be no sharing of traits, but they can still co-operate, e.g. Shadows finally get some decent fighter cover thanks to their team-mate. :)

If the two teams don't share scouting then presumably they also don't share targetting data - fleet A doesn't get a bonus to break stealth due to one of fleet B's ships having just attacked an enemy stealth ship.

Yeah, Shadows get fighter cover but their opponents don't share scouting and stealth breaking data to shoot at Shadow scouts.

Which is naff, IMHO.

Well only if their partner brings some and is happy to cover them (and they can keep up!)... its the same for the Drakh - who get even better deal as they have zero fighters..........

That is kind of my point - fighter deficient races get a boost. Scout deficient races don't.

Also, at what point does it stop - if a Drakh ship is being attacked by fighters, is an ally not allowed to send fighters to dogfight them?

If there are two centauri players on the same side, can one player's maximus lend interceptor dice to the other player's ships?

If Richard (or someone) is playing on his own, he has an advantage - his scouts can scout for his whole fleet, not just half of it.

I'm going to take a points handicap, because I'll be playing singularly, that way any inherent advantages I have should be negated by being down on points.

Secondly, I'm still reeling from the death of a family member, so I'm not particularly operating at full cognitive capacity. It all worked well in my head when I thought of it, but now its starting to make my brain ache, so what do we feel to full fleet integration? I.e Fleet A can lend its fighter support, targeting data from scouts, or interceptors etc etc to ships from Fleet B?

How do you guys, collectively, want to play it . . . because to be more than honest, I'm starting to get incredibly confused . . . and I'm the TO. lol

Whats most important to me, is that you guys come here and have fun, and enjoy your games . . . I dont want any of you to feel that elements of it are shit, but I'll be forward in saying that I need your collective advice to do that. :)

Either one combined fleet which can share traits and targetting data, or a full 4 player game with independent fleets co-operating but moving independently and not sharing traits or data.

That does mean scouts from one opposing fleet can help ships on the other opposing fleet to target stealth ships such as Shadow Scouts and all things Minbari. It also means Shadow Scouts can share data with their associates, and there will probably be more of them than other scouts, except perhaps White Stars.

And now I need to go and pack - I'll be travelling to Walsall tomorrow, which means the next time you hear from me will be in person. See you all on Saturday!

Right, another annual B5 event at the Warlords done, and despite our numbers gradually dwindling I for one had some bloody good fun! :)

It was great to see the crowd, Charles, Paul, Ken, Greg, Adrian and Alex, and I actually quite enjoyed the doubles format . . . it felt a little more relaxed, even if I was helped out in games two and three, by a liberal amount of 6's hehehehe

Loved going back to the Centauri, highlights for me was the one Demos that went around dropping the nut on Minbari and warlock alike, and the Balvarin chasing down the Dargan!lol

All in all, good company, good games and I hope to see you all again fairly soon :)

Thanks all for attending, Rich.

It was a good fun day win or loose.

It was good to see Rich getting in the swing of it after all this time, even with all those 6's he was rolling :).

Congrats to Ken and Alex for winning the Team Event. Ken has taken back his "King of Walsall" title back.

It was sad not to see the others who dropped out.

Thanks from me, too, to all who attended and made the event possible. Special thanks to Rich, alias Centauri_Admiral, for organising it.

The highlight for me was my G'Quan obliterating a Tigara and damaging a Tinashi, all with its secondaries. Mock the G'Quan at your peril. :D

There will be a few photos in due time...

Update:
Here are the aforementioned photos.
