imperium and anagathics

while worlds can vary on their laws , just how strict is the imperium on anagathics?

if a traveller was 200 and looked 25, would he need a fake id on many worlds to avoid harassment?

i imagine at some routine identity checks they would think the real id a fake .

would tas keep sending high passages 150 years after joining ?

After centuries on our world of seeking the philosopher's stone and the fountain of youth I would think that all but a small minority of worlds would be embracing and encourage its use.

1. That would make Traveller's Aid a pyramid scheme.

2. Cosmetic surgery - goes both ways.

3. Live longer? You're going to get political and/or religious movements for and against, and a knotty problem, if considered a human right.

What about noble titles for 200 years...
What about all of the skills he or she would have after 150+ years
Guess that ship is finally payed off!
100+ years of making money, why are you still adventuring?
if you look at how its done in the Honor Harrington series it may help.

after 200 years as a duke he would have that job mastered making his service to emperor better

true but that makes him a more valued citizen. besides probably spent most of those years binge watching tv shows .lol

Guess that ship is finally payed off!
Hopefully, or maybe i keep refinancing it to fund my casino habit.

IMHO this is a question every referee has to decide for herself. In the end, it is still a game and you can adapt the setting to your liking. But it is certain that this topic could be the starting point for many adventures and conflicts.

In "my" imperium it depends a lot where and who you are and of course if you can afford buying regular doses of anagathics. Furthermore, as they are still rare and in short supply on most worlds, Travellers better think twice before getting dependent on it.

Hmm. Need a TL 15 reliable source that is either illegal or heavily controlled that must be taken once a month (or else...) at Cr.20,000 a month. Long life is for the idle super rich.

Most people tend to coast rather than actively and continuously better themselves learning new skills in later years. Worst is you tend to forget skills not constantly used.

There must be something terribly wrong if you have to hide your identity because you use anagathics. Is it worth constantly getting high tech body alterations? Even then, your body chemistry and DNA will give you away with even lower tech analysis. On the run for centuries? Once again, the rich don't care.

I wonder if there is some grave effect to anagathics that it's illegal and controlled or is it mostly the rich just don't want to share such a divine gift with the masses.

There is an adventure idea there. A planet where the powerful people have anagathics, and the lowly proles do not. It makes the long-lived targets. The longer you live, the less risk you want to take, so as not to take a risk of getting killed. So the proles can threaten assassination, guns, bombs, arson etc. on long-lived targets in order to scare the rulers into giving concessions.

Travellers could get contacted to smuggle in weapons for the proles, or get hired by the richer rulers to attack a prole base.

This sorta took directions I wasn't expecting
I was trying to find differences between imperial law and local planetary laws. just like here there are vast differences between usa laws and international laws :)
The imperium ( and by that i mean the starports and areas between planets) seems to be Very lowest common denominator, if its legal on any world it's legal there.

blades and guns are forbidden on many worlds but you can own fusion and plasma weapons in any starport. and so I was thinking that Anagathics would be much the same. i.e. most starports have 1d doses in stock dm -1 each hex from nearest tl 15 or 16 planet.

I was mainly looking at the more humorous aspects, If someone in the usa who looks 19 orders a drink in a bar, his id will be checked. if it says he just turned 21 he might be given the benefit of the doubt , if his id claimed he was 80 they would think it was a fake id and he would be refused service. So would someone who looked 25 and had an id that said he was 150 be viewed the same, on worlds that do not use Anagathics.

If they were truly forbidden under imperial law that would mean any potential traveller char whose homeworld was one of the ones that expected or required their use then they would be banned from entering the starport making careers offworld difficult if not impossible

as they are listed under pharmaceuticals good #42 and not under # 61 or #63 the only real question is how many doses are in a 1dton box. :)

We already know how arrogant, discompassionate and distant the rich get towards the rest of your species. Think about adding virtual immortality to the equation.

Anagathics production may require fresh blood from immature humans; lots of it.

Or human bone marrow.

Or puréed human liver.

Well I have heard bathing in virgins blood gets good results. lol
but they are an endangered species nowadays.

if i want to be in a universe that...

conspiracy abounds everywhere .. id be playing paranoia
the future is dystopian .... id play warhammer 40k ( or watch cnn )
the future is so bright there is nothing to fight .... id watch startrek
traveller is a future that still has hope but still has wrongs to right . :)
